when i jump, i tend not to do the tradition jumping position - bum back, fold, hands up the neck and standing up slightly.
i just sit forward a bit - my hands stay where they are normally and i sit up quite a lot! is this really wrong? i feel safe, but should i try to fold more? any tips for doing this?

this one's really bad - 1st time jumping 4ft!

its quite good alround, but there are a few pointers that you could improve!

the last pic looks like you where left behind, but as you say it was your 1st time jumping 4f then you are forgiven!

the thing i would be worried about most of all if you give enough rein over the fence for the horse to stretch, as as long as they have room to stretch and not being yanked in the mouth (not you, you dont look as though you yank

) and that you are with the horse over the jump.
apart from that, as long as you are secure when you jump it is ok to develop your own jumping style

*just my two cents

Ride a little shorter as that will help, you just need to fold your top half of your body more and sit further back into the saddle with your bum raised a little out

Just try and fold more with your horse, and you will find you will get a nicer jump from him too.

Your position looks a little better in the 2nd fence.

Lovely pony

i know its not great but i'm working on it

he doesn't stretch much over fences, so i don't tend to give with my hands.
(and he's 16.2hh! he's no pony

I call everything Pony!! My 17.3 is a pony!!

You do opposite of me, I'm ridiculously forward, making a tiny jump look like I'm going over a puissance wall. Your way is much safer in that you have security if horse stops. My way is full of potential to being chucked out of side door but does allow horse to stretch over fence.
Perhaps your jump position and mine shuld get together and then we'd be perfect!

Nice horse, and nice jump although you look a little nervous and that may be why you don't fold fully.
To practice folding more in your jumping position (without working your horse to death) just pop one pole on the ground in the school....shorten your stirrups up by two holes on each side, and think about sticking your bum out, flattening your belly to the saddle seat, and bringing your chin down.
I think you also need to shorten your reins up, and bend your elbows and therefore have your lower arms further up the horse's neck.
Practice starting JP in walk, then ask the pony to trot, canter and go over the poles, all without sitting your bottom on the saddle.
Hope this helps
