Murphy currently has a Wintec Wide cob saddle, which is great as it fits him, but it's not so great when we're jumping as it is quite straight cut, slightly too small for me, and has quite a deep seat.

My friend has a GP/jumping saddle for sale which is quite forward cut. We put it on Murphy and it seems to fit him perfectly, but because it's so forward cut it just looks a bit...well...odd

But I don't know if that's just because I'm used to seeing him in a straight cut saddle

I think he does have quite big chunky shoulders.

Does anyone have any pics of cobs/chunky natives in jumping saddles so I can compare how he looks?

some of what I jump frank in here. (the chestnut)

it is a forward cut GP, had for 3 years. TBH now I have a drsg saddle too the GP doesn't fit as well because it is more forward cut, to allow for the movement of his shoulders it can get a little tight on the points because the panels below the knee rolls have to be quite loose to allow his shoulder to move.

I love it for jumping but was struggling with canter flatwork as if frank got strong I had no support with longer stirrups.

Can't remember what it is as I bought it second hand but can check. Frank is only a medium fitting these days but still has big shoulders.

Thanks ester - the one in your pics is defo not as forward cut as my friend's saddle, although when we tried it on him last time it did allow plenty of room for his shoulders to move...I'm going to try it again tonight and ride him in it to see how it feels.

Keep ths pics coming guys...

yes its not that forward but I like it, has saved me a few times (sadly not last sunday!)

He did have a close contact jump saddle with previous owner, apparently made to measure I never saw it though.

Unfortunately my current saddle doesn't save me very often... Murphy has a tendency to cat-leap and I've come off a few times recently, and I get unseated a lot. This is partly down to my lack of balance (and also total lack of riding ability) but it has been suggested that my saddle really isn't helping.

Have you tried the Thorowgood T4 Cob saddle?? We bought one recently for our new highland mare and that seems to fit her beautifully. I have only popped her over some very small crosspoles and uprights as she hasn't done any jumping before, but it certainly didn't feel too straight cut and was surprisingly comfy.

Here's a pic to give you an idea of the shape:

We always used to struggle in the past to find a jumping saddle to fit my welsh x arab too, he had such big shoulders and broad withers, in the end we went for a cut back, event type saddle, perhaps that might be something to consider too?! I know Ideal now do a range specifically for natives as well.

no pics of sis jumping Sunny but she has a Harry Dabs jumping saddle for him and it fits his table top
