Because Jack has a somewhat habit of allowing me to jump without him I should always sit back and wait on the jump coming - instead I collapse in the middle before the jump allowing him to run out at the last minute. Anybody any tips for thinking back? I just can't seem to stop doing it!

Why not try some poles on the ground to work on your position and balance. Just pretend they are a jump! (you can then start to raise one side of them) This would also be good with a friend to advise or intructor.

Also, make sure your strirrups are pretty short, even shorter than you think and make sure your feet are pushed in them (i,e so your lower leg is what is doing to help if he stops or runs out, this is your safety net)

Oh God - the complications that are jumping. Had jumping lesson last nite and here are some of my emmmm 'habits'. You need to WAIT and not go forward until the front legs are actually lifting off the ground. Trying counting outloud the last 3 strides into the fence. Also V V IMPORTANT is to NOT drop the contact on the last stride as this allows the horse to wobble and stop/run out. Commit to the fence and keep the leg on.

Also keep a rounded canter, ride into the corner - look for the fence & look up and over the jump, not down at it.

Oh my god - if I could out this all together at once I'd be Ellen Whitaker
