I took a huge step outside my comfort zone today, I went up to Norton Heath today to have a go at the clear round with the intention of giving the 2ft 6 outdoor course a go. Well when we got there I nearly passed out when I saw the course, it was huge and even Quarrybank who was with me was sure it wasn't 2ft 6. But she has huge powers of persaussion and preyed on the little part of me that did want to try!

So on I got and warmed up (I do find warm up arenas terrifying places

), only had a few tears and a couple of panics! Then in we went, we had all ready decided to try fences 1-5 and maybe 6-7 but definately not the final double as the parallel going in was pretty wide (think we might of landed in between the poles

So off we went, first 2 fences

he stopped at the 3rd because I froze and I nearly came off, he jumped it ok 2nd time, fences 4a, b and 5 ok and then round to 6, another stop due to pilot error and then the same problem at 7 but unfortunately this lead to a parting of company as I made a close inspection of the arena floor

no damage got back on and jumped 7. It all sounds a bit awful but jumping those big fences is a big thing for me, and George wasn't naughty he only stopped because he wasn't sure if his Mum was sure - boy was he right!

Before you think I making a fuss of jumping 2ft 6, this is where I was 7mths ago:

I don't think you are making a fuss - I don't do all four legs leaving the ground - apparently you have to keep your eyes open.......

Oh heck no pictures, Quarrybank was too busy shouting encouragement and telling me to 'kick'! I should of taken a picture of the course at least, perhaps someone was there who can vouch for me!!

I can def vouch for the fact that when we first walked it, it was at least 2'6" with proper spreads. V meaty for 2'6" clear round

(& I happily jump 3' & above)

GG was fab & although I knew she'd happily have put the ramp up & gone back home if I'd let her

she got on & did it. It wasn't as bad as she thinks it was. She rode really well & should be v proud of what she's achieved with George from where they started from.

Sorry no photo's this time, as we were in the big outdoor, & I couldn't manage to photo, while running round shouting instructions

I'll get them when she next goes!!

Don't worry about people thinking you're fussing about the height - I think you're fab doing a course of fences! My horse and me can only manage one fence at a time - she sets off after that and there is no hope of fitting in another one because we're at the other side of the arena. Don't suppose they do one fence clear rounds

Look forward to your next update.

Of course you should be pleased

just think the next time you jump they won't seem quite so scary! Think how far you've come to even be prepared to have a go at a 2'6" course. Keep up the good work, and photos next time please?

wow! you inspire me you really do. I am the one who is sobbing in the warm up ring, crying in the arena and asking my 16.2HH beast to jump...... 1ft!
I think how far you and george have come is amazing and i hope one day i can be as brave as you.
