I am looking for some exercises to practise at home to get my mare listening and learning to make a nice shape over a fence, she has never really done any work on technique and tends to try and rush in on approach and either take off too close or too far out causing a long and low shape. What things can i try to get her taking off correctly and using herself properly over a fence. She is a little poppet and jumping rnd 1m05 but not always in great style and i would really like to work on her jump.

One tip for you, a lower spread fence is of more use than trying higher upright fences.Make it wider before you think of going higher.

Lots and lots of gridwork.

What's her canter like? Lots of direct transitions and lots of lengthening and shortening etc. A good canter produces a good jump.

Thankyou for replies, i loose school her 1-2 times a fortnight but she has a 'fast' brain and always thinks she has to charge in, she does produce a lovely jump loose schooling and can get herself out of trouble really well. Her ridden canter work is very good, slow and powerful but she can get a bit excited after canter work for a while, when riding she will canter round the ring fine and sedate till she gets to the turn for the jump then she throws her head up and just bounces becoming very strong and trying to charge in, this makes it very hard for me to try and see a stride and we often get it wrong.
I have tried putting trotting poles in front of the fence to try and slow her but she physically will not trot in, just canters and trips all over the poles. I ride her in a pee wee bit when jumping and still have no control on approach.
