In my last thread I promised vids of my horse jumping, so.... here they are.

Its my instructor as I can't ride for a couple of weeks. Not sure you can tell from the vids, but he after a jump he will put his head down and try and tank off, and he pulls like anything.

I am not the best rider but have been trying to explain how strong he is to her but she did not believe me. Anyway today she said he was pulling so hard, and doing the head down after each jump business, but being a much better rider she could catch him before he took off with her. She said she didn't know how I'd managed to jump him at all with him doing that to me. So we now, at last, have a plan of action, lots of flatwork and pole work before jumping again.

So vids just for interest really, and just pleased she understands now and feel we can start to put it right.

The videos seem to work backwards so the last one being the warm up.

hope the link works!!

really interesting. she keeps his head up really well but looks like he's hard to stop. does he tank into jumps too? and does he get strong on the flat or out hacking?

You can see on landing she gets his head back up straight away. The first jump he will always arrive calmly but on landing head down and tank off. Then if its me on him its pretty much all over as it takes me so long to pull him back that the next jump is just a disaster. However she gives me much tighter courses than yet, so technically she was cheating!!!

On the flat he leans on the bit and pulls, you can see it in my last thread of me riding dressage.

He is pretty good hacking out, has only tanked off with me one (very scary)!!

He does look strong and you can see them having abit of a battle after each jump. Your outdoor school is huge!

Mine rushes to the jump, is there any tips she's given for extra control?

Unfortunately no, as she hasn't really ever belived me, just thought it was me saying it!!! So now she has said we need to got back to basics, lots of flatwork and poles.

But I do believe a good exercise for rushing to jumps is circling them a few times before the jump.

I bought the book 101 jumping exercises which is very good.

I've got one of the 101 exercise books - will have a hunt for it but think its the flatwork one.

She's snaffle mouthed but it feels like you have to hold onto the right rein to stop her running out to the left. I'm not in a position to ride at present but will ask someone to work on the jumping for me.

Thanks :)

The jumping one really is very good, I really recommend it. Also just got the 100 ways to improve your schooling. Reading through it today and its brill!!
