Hi everyone hope you lot can help??
Took my five year old mare show jumping last night (sand paddock out door) 2nd time out and she just didn’t turn on at all, like the first time!! Really slow and couldn’t get her to canter.
Have been jumping in the field at home and she is great fun jumps everything and has a ball.
We have done lots of hunting and she is definitely one of the best in the hunting field water big walls bring it on!!
My question is why so slow and any tips??
Thank you... xx

Don't knock it! It's better than her rushing at the fences! Just work on getting her more responsive to your leg and more switched on to your aids. She is only a baby still, really so she will be relying on you to guide her. If it were me I'd be pleased she was so relaxed as it's far easier to work with!

Sounds like she doesnt like jumping on a surface and prefers grass!
I know a few horses like this that favour one to the other.
My boy goes better on a surface than grass.
Cant really give much advise Im affraid, but she is still young so just keep at it.
Do you have a surface at home?

Relaxed I was thinking about getting off and jumping them myself!! Bless her I know Paris is only starting out. I love her too bits and just want to do my best for her.x

It will be a confidence thing. My boy does the same and "switches off". Apparently is very common. Just keep up the little rounds until she gets more forward and switched on, you will get there!

We have a very small surface at home its a bit hard at the min so haven’t been jumping in it!! Think she prefers grass myself.. I'll take her next week again x

If it's one of her first shows it could well be stage fright. It's not unusual for them to be more unsure in unusual surroundings. I am sure the more you go the better she will be especially if she's jumping well at home.

good luck.

Sounds like she's just being very green. Work her in the school with the jumps up and just let he get used to it...i'm sure she'll come right
