just browsing the horse sales.....its nice to look at pics...

anyway - noticed quite a few ponies advertised with sj or xc experience...this then got me wondering what soze fences they can do? ive always presumed (bad) that its the bigger 15.2hh and above that get placed in sj and xc

opinions please!!!

How long's a piece of string?

My 13.3, even into his twenties, would pop round a 1.15m course SJ. He was happy to school over PN but I've never competed him above 2'9 XC and he was placed most times out at that.

I know of a 14.2hh stallion that can jump bigger than many 15.2hh horses. All depends on the pony, it's breeding, schooling, experience etc...

lol - down to the individual then!

I do apologise in advance but when I think of my daft questions it annoys me till I know the answers!!

does anyone here compete on a pony?

I used to own a 14h welsh cob. Ugliest thing ever, I got him when he was 6 and he had only been a driving pony, never broken.

By the time he was 10 we were doing 1m50 courses and winning. On the other hand I know somebody who got a 16h mare 'bred to showjump', who couldnt get round a metre course without 8 faults.

Which goes back to the first reply, how long is a piece of string?

I used to do open (usually between 3 foot and 3 foot 6) on my 11.3- she was an ACE jumper. I would never do that now!
I think BSJA ponies go upto 130cm size jumps for 14.2's.

I compete a 13.3, she can jump most things from a standstill and does quite often if she needs a look at it first - LOL

I'm over the hill BTW, feel much safer jumping a pony, not so far to fall......

My 14.2 pony won a high jump comp at 5' 10" (the jump is angled rather than the big wall type thing). She was against larger horses. I always jumped her in horse classes . It really depends on the pony to be honest.
