I'm getting excited as my jumping ban will soon be lifted and was thinking of how i'm going to start him when i finally can, but could do with a bit of advice. As its going to have been just over 2 months since last time, knowing what he is like, he's going to be an @rse and tank like a loon and i'm not going to have any control. He's currently in a hanging cheek which when he's been jumping for a while is ok in and listens to, but i know this isnt going to be enough when we re-start. Obviously i'm planning on starting with poles the grids before i get back to jumping properly, but i want to stay in one piece this time, so what bit would you recommend (bearing in mind he's just provided me with a very large vets bill, so as cheap as possible) that would give me a bit more control until he's back into it. Thankies

I would go with a continental snaffle (French link if you prefer) then you can vary the degree if pressure depending. This bit will only work if your horse doesn’t mind poll pressure. My friend rides in bit rounding’s which really helps her in this bit.

Willkie snaffle? I find that most horses will go well in it (bar some very headstrong horses) and even if you slip up and grab at him a bit if he goes a bit silly it is not so strong that it will be the end of the world - I guess without knowing the horse it is hard to say…

Congrats at being able to jump again and good luck!!
