How do you no when your horse is ready to move up to larger courses? Start of last year we were jumping mixture of 90-1m courses schooling wise and 80cm at shows he was 6 at the time (went clear 80s alltime apart from once), then started stopping and bunny hopping and then got injured june09 got him back in work at end of sept09 and just started back jumping in march i think! lol have been jumping upto 90 and he seems way more confident this year (touch wood lol) and seems more egar than what he used to be ... so how do you no when to jump bigger?

heres a wee vid of one of the jumps from last week (ps i no my jumping position is **** :(lol) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUStHVusoBU&feature=related

I dont have an instructor :( ... he doesnt usually knock down just rubs slighty with a back leg sometimes, quite economical i think ;)

As suggested it's impossible to judge without seeing either of you jump a course of fences.

BUT..

Go with your gut instinct, if you honestly feel he can do a little more and you're confident around a bigger track, give him a little try. Go to a show, do a metre class and enter for the next one up. You can always jump 6/7 fences then retire if you feel it's asking a little much. But you're right to be cautious and ask him one step at a time rather than blowing his brains or knocking his confidence.
