i dont know if it is just me but after reading the areyou brave or good post, it got me thinking, I can jump 4 ft and i am only 14, Is this good? I have only been riding for 2 years aswell, but i dont know if i am brave or good!? I will approach pretty much anything riding positive but quite nervous! The only thingthat nerves meabout my jumping is that before i bought my mare she was affiliated and got taught to "fly" at the fences! but i panic about getting to far under the fence, i can normally sort myself out before we get there and ride it nicely, But is there any tips that could help me with this please? sorry its long!!

Well its not really the hight you jump, its how you jump it. For all i know you could be a complete novice on a fab pony (not saying you are, im sure your not but an example) I'm 14 and have jumped over 3'6 but i have been riding for a while and i know that how i jump the fence is more important than the height, especially with my boy.
It doesnt always mean you are brave or good, could mean other things i guess.

As for the 'fly'ing you could try a placing pole a stride away from the fence so that she gets the right distance.

) so what ur horse was affil ...she had been out of work for ages before you bought her and can be a typical mare now and agen. I've seen you ride its brill ...keep it up no matter what pple say !!!!

Jumping is about how much you and your horse trust one another. If you trust your horse you can jump the moon. If you don't cross rails can be a problem. Sounds like you and your mare are getting on well. At 14 I remember nothing fazed me, so enjoy it while it lasts and don't go to high to fast and scare either yourself or your mare. Make sure that the pair of you are enjoying yoursselves I always think that that is the important part.

I think a lot of kids your age jump things that height. I used to jump 4ft when I was 12 on my 13.2hh but wouldnt dream of doing that now (on my 16hh!) unless I was in a lesson / competition or something! Back then, I used to mess about getting thrills out of jumping big but as you get older, I dont know - you just seem to loose bravery a bit!

No offence, but I think most people are capable of jumping 4ft as a single fence but make that a full course and its a hell of a lot harder! But its still good

and its a nice feeling to jump that height when you're young!
