She had some blood taken on Monday night which they tested on Tuesday morning, so I went back for the results last night. The tests show that she has liver damage - the liver is not assimilating enough protein from her diet, hence the thin-ness, poor coat etc.
She was given an anabolic steroid injection last night to boost her body systems a bit, and I was also given some Zentonil tablets which improve the liver function. I have to go back in two weeks time when she has finished the tablets to see whether she has put any weight on - if she has then obviously the tablets are working, if not then the vet will try something else. I was a bit horrified to find that the tablets were £55 for 2 weeks supply
- but then I found them on the internet today for £20 less than that!
Someone has also suggested milk thistle to me, but I'm not sure if I can give her that at the same time as the tablets so will check with the vet. I just want her to get a bit better - even if it gives her another year or so it will be worth it, so fingers crossed
