Things go crazy!! I work in a feed merchants and we have had one of our busiest days ever!!! Snow shovels = sold out, cat litter = sold out, wellies = selling out fast!!! Feed has gone mental, we have had to ration some items, so everyone can get a bit to tide them over rather than just those who have lots of storage/loads of money nabbing the lot!!!! My feet ache and my head hurts and I have no idea if next week's order will make it.. - roll on summer

I was suspecting this, and although I have no hifi left, I very much doubt the feedstore has either. It's madness.

I have just had a bit of a rant on another forum, about humans buying too much milk, bread and stuff. Some have far too much, others can get none. I have a neighbour with cancer, the only thing he can digest is milk - they are struggling to get any.
I do wish people would stop being so selfish, by all means buy extra, but not every last bit you can carry.

That's why we have rationed - to try to be fair to everyone........Sheer panic buying, the snow will be gone soon and we'll be awash with rain and mud again in no time!!

Oh my god that is just so silly, i have no idea why people do this, and what makes me laugh is when you see someone in a big 4x4 buying everything up, now if they dont think they are gonna get to the shops how much snow do they think we are gonna get.

i went for feed today, they had one bag of lo cal balancer, 1 healthy hooves and two bags horsehage

, they just had their order yesterday, so i came away with nothing as they didnt have what mine get, so i have to ring round tomorrow to see if i can find some local ish to me

gotta confess i went to asda and wiped them out of salt but only so i could get my man out for 1st time in over a week

you forgot to mention you had sold out of gloves (the proper sort, not the riding sort)

one of the girls said you had sold 1 and a 1/2 pallets of haylage!!!!

No kidding, I shop for my elderly Mum who is housebound but when I went to Morrisons for her shopping earlier today they had no vegetables left and I am not exagerating it was so ridiculous not a potatoe left how rediculous.....I mean if they can get to the shops today then they can get there in a couple of days as well so why panic buy?

I took my Mum shopping earlier, along with a list for an elderly neighbour. As you say, no veg at all. Makes the "5 a day" difficult! Also no wild bird food to be had anywhere. Does anyone know if there's any reason why you couldn't feed poultry grain to wild birds?

I feed poultry growers pellets to the wild birds, I do put out mixed corn but they dont seem to like it

I queued for an hour at Tescos earlier to buy cat litter, I got the last bag which was lucky as our cat was in need of it!

QR - this is *part* of the reason I order so that I am always sure all my feed bins are full, and I have a bag of each in the storage box from early on in winter feed time. Not because I fear the weather, but because it only takes a tiny turn in the weather and people panic buy so that the bag of mix you tend to pick up each week suddenly can't be found!

I also do it so that it's easier to budget, and so should I (heaven forbid!) get hospitalised again, then everything is organised in advance

well mum made the most of school being closed and went and got some feed but only same as normal.

I do wonder how much of it in supermarkets is people buying and how much is the supermarkets not being able to get the normal amount of deliveries in particuarly of the fresh foods so milk particularly.

There was only 2 cars in our small somerfield car park today and asda was no different to a normal saturday.

didnt go down the fruit and veg aisle though.

I went asda on friday they had no bread, wine(just had to throw that one in) and no salt whatsoever so had to go back this morning and they only had 3 tubs left then but i as desperate

Going against the grain here, I called in at Tesco (a. to get fuel, b. to get bread and crisps!)
Ok, so only 1 pump of diesel going, but plenty of bread and crisps! I actually stored extra milk in the freezer from last week, and have food supplys to last a while longer.... Advanced planning unintentionally!!!
Surprised at how quiet it seemed, and this was at 4pm! - ps we also got wheel spin in the slushy car park and I remembered to buy a lottery ticket. Impressive!!

Went to my local feed store yesterday for a salt lick, and a pooper scooper, there must have been 20 people in the queue.......

I decided neither were urgent purchases and gave up.

And as for Tescos up the road, took me nearly an hour in the queue, frozen chips had defrosted and the bag of peas were soggy. Tempers were fraying and trolleys were being used as battering rams. Far worse than at Christmas.

Had to go stay though as literally nothing in the house. All last week busy packing up horse and belongings to move to a new yard, last weekend devoted to the move and settling in, and this week again settling in, battling the snow and trying to get to work at some point during the morning. Shopping didn't happen!!

Hahah - years ago when I worked in a grocery store in Massachusetts, the very mention of snow would send people out in droves buying bread, milk, eggs and other basic necessities. I can remember after a particularly bad and early snow fall in October, lots of trees came down on powerlines cos they hadn't lost their leaves, so the weight of snow and ice on the branches caused them to break branches....so the region was left with people stranded in their homes with no power and heaps of snow - so the next time snow forecasts came, it was sales of batteries, flashlights etc and bottled water....

Also, a big thing to do was to make sure your petrol/diesel was FULL in the car as condensation can build up in the tank and make it so your car doesnt start...
