This isnt another dogs off the lead rant at all.

On the way to countrywide yesterday Oh and I encountered a lady with two beautiful big labs walking along the road.
It is a very windy and typically blind country road, with few straights and barely enough room for two cars to pass. But is still a relatively busy road as it is a back way to a town.
Her dogs were both right out in the middle of the road, so we slowed and gaveher the time to call her dogs in which she did, but the stupid woman had them both a good two foot from the hedge with their tails acroos the road, we had to stop and wait for her to realise, (with a 'what do you want me to run your dogs tail over or something? guesture. i wanted to rant at her, but Oh said to leave it) She kicked his tail round and we went on our way.

On the returning journey we came around a sharp blind bend (more slowly and carefully than usual, having just nearly been tanked into by a boy racer). It is so unbelieveably lucky that we were going so slowly as what met us around this bend, trotting quite happily almost into the car?

Yep, one of the labs, the other following. The owner was busy wiping her foot on the grass way up the road completely oblivious that her dog could have very well been flattened.

OH avoided them and stopped by the woman, and instantly you could tell there were no words to say, she wouldnt have listened and will do the same thing tomorrow. I did go mad, adrenaline running and all, asked her why she had dogs if she was so happy with putting them into danger, what about us, we had a baby in the car and if we had been going faster we would have had to swerve and brake hard, it could harm him blah blah. She just said ''sorry'' STILL NOT CALLING HER DOGS BACK WHO BY THEN HAD GONE AROUND THE BLIND BEND WHICH IS IN A SEQUENCE OF THREE TWISTS!

Unfortunately its the dog that will end up going under the wheels of a car. not her, she wont suffer the pain her dog will.

They werent badly behaved dogs by the looks of it, she called them and they came, but she was so in a world of her own both times i would doubt she would have even realised we had run her dogs tail over or killed it if that had have happened. I can think of 10 people off the top of my head that would have been doing 30+ around that corner. the dog wouldnt have stood a chance.

So the dogs pain and death aside, does she realise how devastating it would be for the motorist to hit her dog. Most of the people around here have dogs and i for one would be heartbroken and it would probably put me off driving for a good while. Oh was visably shaken and as he said, hes never come that close to hitting a dog, and he has a full pack out with a quad bike.
Like i said, we had a baby in the car, what about hard braking hurting him, let alone us, a back or neck strain could put OH off work, not good at this time of the year. Why oh why cant people see the whole picture?

Sorry, its not intended to be a rant.

Personally I hate seeing dogs off lead on country roads, IMO its asking for trouble.

There is a very narrow lane that I have to travel to get to work, it is impossible to drive faster than 30 on it. Every single day I dodge at least 5 dogs off lead on it. One day I will end up hitting one :(

I always stop and wait for the owner to gather the dogs on the verge and thank them when I see them but it is a road. I shouldn't have to emergency stop and wait for fluffy to be caught before I can continue.

The road walkers are usually okay as well. Theres a guy down by us who has his lab out on the road when he is doing work on the house and the fecker always goes for my tyres, that'll get hit one day too. :(

Cants stand the owners who make sure they are tucked up high onto the verge but leave their dog on the road with their bum half out :(

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything that will make these people use their brains other than a dead / injured dog :(

I ran around with a staple gun last week and stuck up 'Please keep your dog on a lead' signs on the section of lane my work owns (Not my job btw) but I still almost hit a JRT on monday.
