Looking at the post below, and having read some of the rider comments i would just like to make the following observations.
1.last year in the hickstead eventers grand prix, oli townend ride a horse that clearly injured itself behind (right in front of where i was) and he actually jumped or attempted to jump, the next two fences, while the handful of officials by the water looked on as a great many people in the open grandstand screamed for him to pull up. Is this different from Amy?
2. at aston le walls last year mathew Wright jumped the hedge before the water complex in the advanced class, where the next fence (trakener) was certainly no further away than the last at lexington, and it was apparent immediatelythe rider knew something was wrong. In a few strides the horse was bolting from the pain and i have never seen anyone make more effort to avod the next jump, which was right in front of him, at great risk to himself, let alone the horse, and though it involved steering the horse through a car park, the crowds and the showjumping collecting ring he succeeded in doing so before throwing himself off to stop horse. This incident cannot have taken more than 10 or 15 seconds either. It that rider hadnt been so aware and so quick thinking there would have been more damage done, either to hmself, the horse or the spectators. He only had a few strides tothink about what was going on beneath him also.

i was there for both the above incidents, know the riders quite well and admire them both by the way.

who was it that OT rode in the Hickstead grand prix?
Can't remember the name of the horse and it is very annoying lol

Either AT is a very stupid woman or one who competes in such a focussed state of mind she can't think quickly enough.
I find it very sad she didn't understand her horse was obviously injured, and can only believe she didn't realise that fact, believing she did it on purpose doesn't bear thinking about.
It also doesn't ring true as she would hardly deliberately risk her top competition horse would she?
No, I'm sorry I won't scream cruel and wicked at her because I can't truly believe she did it on purpose.
Stupid, ignorant, totally unprofessional not to be aware of what was going on underneath her, but if she had been that conscious of the likely damage, she would never have attempted to jump the fence knowing the horse was lame anyway..
Like your comment regarding the incident re OT below, I sometimes wonder if some competitors are so driven when they compete it takes a while for them to "click" back into normal.. I doubt OT would even have heard the screams as he would be in tunnel vision and have blocked the sounds out as most people do when concentrating hard.
All credit to MW however, it sounds like he prevented serious damage to his horse by his prompt actions.

That has certainly given me more respect to MW than i previously had, but tbh would prob exxpect it from OT, and it makes it just as bad as AT, although presumably the horse didnt end up being destroyed? (although makes it none the more forgivable IMO)

I didn't see either OT or MW incidents so can't comment, but from what was said OT should have been reprimanded (to what degree I can't say I never saw the incident I am going on what has been said here) and MW praised for his effort to stop.

The difference between this incident and AT:

MW horse bolted and he was trying to pull the horse up, ATs horse was trying to slow down (kept falling back to trot) and she was clearly kicking it on.

HH I fully support your post. It is outrageous that she didn't stop. On seeing the video, I find it totally amazing (maybe amazing isn't the right word) that she couldn't feel the horses obvious pain. I dont see how she couldn't pull up in the stated 10-15 seconds because as riders, we react to something by the second. Its a fact we have quick reactions. Those of us that dont, dont progress to be good riders.

But like you, I cant see her motivation, (apart from obviously winning the x country phase) because had she known the extent of the injury...the horse could not have competed the following day.

Only AT knows the real answer, and unfortunately I dont believe we'll ever get to the bottom of why that horses suffered as long as he did.

I didn't know about MW, and it sounds like he should be commended.

OT...well it doesn't surprise me tbh and I think it is virtually as bad as AT.

As for not being able to hear due to tunnell vision - the french rider pulled up at Badminton because of the crowd screaming - so maybe its just selective deafness...

Yes it was measure for measure who Oli rode. She

sustained a fracture and was operated on and i believe retired as a brood mare.

MW did very well to prevent injury to himself or any spectators in his attempt to pull up L'air due jour at aston.
The mare at one point looked like she may be saved for breeding but unfortunately developed complications and was PTS. RIP Bunny.

I found the shame on you Amy entry quite eye opening, she obviously has double standards if she has critised someone else for something similar in the past and there is no excuse for drawing blood with spurs on a horse. I didn't think I could dislike AT anymore than I already did but now I do!
