Just wanted to say what a big difference asking for a little advice has done! I have a mare who started stumbling in the trailer, it got much worse and last time we took her out she fell down, had a deep cut on her leg and a deep cut that narrowly missed her eyeball. She refused to load 99% of the time (would eventually go in but it took well over an hour) and we she was in, she kept falling down. However in the first years of owning her this never happened.

We though of all possible causes, hock issues, reasons for losing balance and coordination... anyway it was looking bleak as we couldn't take her out anywhere and my sister wanted to go hunting on her. Everyone we spoke to told us to take the partition out- well that could have worked but she wouldn't ever travel alone as she only goes out when I take my horse out and my sister joins me.

I posted about it on here and a few people told me to travel her on the right if she is normally on the left- and then it made sense! she had moved to the left when I got my other horse as he is heavier and that's when she started falling down. So today we wanted to hunt and decided to try it, and if it went wrong we would turn around and go home. Well I went to load her on the right and for the first time in around 18 months she went straight in and she didn't stumble or lose her balance once for the whole journey! So thanks HHOers :) we had a great day hunting with a happy pony who also loaded fine on the way home.
