Odd one to report this morning.
Got a phone call saying we had a horse horse loose up one of the fields we've got.
Headed up there straight away, thinking maybe one had just broken out the field overnight, as 2 were kept up on the concrete old cattle shed part nearer the road, as we'd wormed them and pulled them off the field....so whether one in the field had just gone over the fencing to get back to them.
However, both were out, still had haylage left in [one being a highland pony and one a little native x pony].
Both open-able gates were still locked and chained.
However, one part of the fencing on the corner of the pen, is a high 5 bar gate with high mesh security fencing attached onto it. It's not a hinged type as it's not a gateway as such, it's attached onto the wooden sleepers either side.
Anyway. This had been untied [undone from the outside...not able to be reached by the ponies inside. Not frayed/snapped].And the whole thing was wide open, inwards. Not pushed over or caved in, as if one of the ponies had caved it in or gotten caught on it and dragged it. Dead straight and still up right at 90 degrees open into the yard.
One of the mares, the highland, is well handled but was wearing a head collar at the moment as the native x pony is a bit of a bad influence on her regarding catching her in there, but once the highland's caught she's broken/handled/friendly/etc. The other pony, is absolutely wild as a march hare currently as is a 'project' for the summer.
There were some tyre tracks coming down from the road to it, but walkers do park up a bit so could be various things for that.
We had forgotten we'd left the headcollar on the highland, as she doesn't normally have one left on any other day, until we pulled out the drive and just saw something blue in the fenceline just opposite the drive, her headcollar all still done up not muddy or broken etc.
Whatever happened, the ponies when found loose, were herded into a driveway to the house nearby by the guy who lives there. Going to pop by when I see him and ask if he heard anything weird going on at all.
So yeah....don't know what happened!
But just thought I'd post it on here anyway. We're just near Swindon/Marlborough.
We're moving them out of there today anyway, as the highland is sold anyway so can't have her getting stolen!
