Just a wee vid of my youngter.

Well i've never noticed any of your posts, and i don't really care. Because that was a lovely video to see, a relaxed and responsive youngster is always nice to watch. Would love to be able to do that one day. Well done :)

Although I normally disagree with all your posts on this forum, I have to say that I liked your video. I have an ex racer, with mouth problems and a very stressy way with him. I have also taken up the string way and have found it suits him very well. I am of an age where I am old school, but, I have learnt to embrace another school of thought and this way has made this previously very unhappy horse relaxed and has started to enjoy himself. I think this way is not for every horse and not for everybody, but it is good to be open minded to an alternative way of thinking.

Im glad you have found something that your horse likes. I guess it really is about thinking outside the box sometimes, changing our perceptions and doing something totally different. I agree, its not for everyone, or every horse.

And im sure your not the only one to disagree with me on this forum. :D .

Thank you. He really is a sweetheart to ride. Ideally i would love to be able to ride all my horses with just a string, or even nothing at all. To me, thats true partnership. Something i will always aspire too.

That is amazing, could you explain what you are doing? Never seen that before and it looks a great way to bring on a horse.

This is my reply to another forum, where someone wanted to know the reason i was doing this.

I guess, like kellynrocco said, its about being able to teach your horse to be very light to cues, whether its from a bit, halter or string.
I will always aim to encourage my horses to be as light as possible, so a small adjustment of my position, and/or slight touch or the rein, is all that is needed for a turn or stop. Because my horses all know to move away from pressure lightly, even one who has never been ridden with s tring round his neck, will quickly learn to back from the pressure, and to steer. All this is used in conjunction with leg and seat aids, so that eventually you will be able to ride completely tackless. Too many people worry about keeping a contact, correct outline, certain bits, etc, im really not all that worried about that stuff. I dont really care how big my horse can jump, or whether he will make a grand prix dressage horse, to me, its about using the least amount of tools, or gadgets, to achieve a partnership with your horse.

Most people probably dont see the point in this sort of exercise, but im sure we would all like to be able to ride our horses with a very light feel, never having to pull on our horse's head for control, never having to kick with our heels, so in reality, its a very useful exercise.
To me, a true partnership is about true unity, me and my horse. Not what gear, or bit, or saddle i use. True unity is about being able to ride your horse with the least amount of effort, least amount of tools, just you, and your horse.

Has any one seen the film 'the black stallion', in which the young boy rides the black stallion tackless along the beach? To me, this is riding. This is horsemanship. Not needing tools and gadgets to control the horse.

I would love more people to see how you can ride simply with a piece of string. It shows that you dont need to hold the reins for control, security (your horse aint gonna try to kill you if you let the reins go), or any other reason really.
If you can get a horse light to the aids, like with a string, you will have a horse who will never pull, never lean, never run away with you, will always listen to the aids, and generally will never need to use gadgets to create a 'riding horse'.

I hope this answers your question. Sorry if i have rambled on a bit. Just want to post a few vids too, just for fun.
Im sure most have seen this video before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-7v8Ck1crg

Also love this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XZk-...eature=related

To begin with, this horse has learnt to come off pressure. He also knows to stop on a wow command, and to wow and steer off my seat and legs. What im doing is using the string on his neck, at the same time using my seat and legs, to get him to turn, and to halt, i say wow, and apply a little pressure on his neck with the string. Because he knows to come off pressure, he easily figures it out to stop. To backup, i use my seat, and apply a little pressure on his neck, and he backs up. Ideally, when he is good enough with my seat and leg cues, i wont need the string. But its still early days with this boy.
Hope i have answered your question.
