Just about to buy these Eva mats ...

Hi,

My EVA mats are lighter, easier to cut to size and spongier but I doubt they will last as long as the hard rubber bubble top ones. I've had the EVA ones less than a year so don't know about that yet. Got the older type heavy duty ones in another stable too and they are soooo heavy and hard but do last.

hi i have the green equimats
mine have taken a real hammering this year as my horse is a box walker and has been on 5 months box rest with "healed" shoe's on
i bought them second hand and think they are about 5 yrs old now ,there is still quite a bit of wear in them yet :) although they do have a few slices in them ,but not all the way through

tbh with the wear they've had i'm impressed there still in one piece

they are so much lighter to move around and i cut them myself with a stanley knife no problem to put down ,i'm even temped to replace my lorry mats with them as it would save a lot on weight

mine are the one's that link together ,think you can get them for derby house
they are far better than the old black matting

my friend has the black rubber matting and hers only last a couple of years with her box walker as she wears the grip off making them slippy

I also have the green Equimats, they are lovely, but as my floor wasn't completely level, they have stretched to fit the slight rise and fall of the floor.

If you move elsewhere don't whatever you do "undo" the jigsaw things. They will never, ever go back together!

Consolation is they are light enough to lift the whole floor to wash out etc.

I do love them, but they are not as hardwearing as my cheapy old "3 tonne" a mat, black ones!

I bought some of the green eva Equimats that interlock about 12 years ago and have just replace them with the black 34mm eva Easymats for my old boy.
Not that the old ones were worn out, they still have lots of life left in them :) Anybody want them for free?
They are so easy to move and lift for cleaning. I only do that once or twice a year as there is no smell. I could not manage the heavy ones anyway and I liked the "give" in them which I am sure will cushion joints, and I think they are more insulating from the cold floor. I can't recommend them enough.

I've never had a problem getting the puzzle edges to fit back together but if you have to store them for any length of time you must lay them flat or they will stay bent.

EVA! I've had mine down for over 5 years and they're nowhere near needing replacing. They have stretched a bit but that's not caused a problem. They are so light and easy to manoeuvre waaaaaay better than rubber :)

Brillian. Thanks everyone that's making me feel a lot better.
I spoke with a chap today who said that the 34mm Eva mats cause lameness in horses because they are too soft and the horses never stand still on them?!
I was convinced Eva was the way forward until I heard this!

At my previous home all of my stables were fitted with EVA mats and they were terrific. I really liked them a lot. At the home we are in now I bought rubber mats instead, why I have no idea as they are not anywhere near as good as the EVA mats. One day I'll replace them but for now the rubber will have to do.

Ok, I believe there was some evidence of tendons being strained/softening on the softer mats. I believe the problem was only being found in horses who had no turnout, and were worked only on surfaces, hence never stood or worked on a hard surface.

Personally I have half of my (massive) box matted with Equimats. I still put down a full bed for my filly, but it doesn't need to be as thick as she will not come into contact with concrete, only mats.

So the back half is matted and the front half concrete. For a horse living in a "normal" way ie, in for a period, then out in a field then normal exercise I can't see how it's going to be a problem, but maybe do some research?

Iv got some equimats, 5yrs old now, been fitted in 4 different stables and are under a shod horse. They're still going strong, bit scratched at the front but really rate them. Also got some 34mm easimats, only 4 months old now but very impressed with them.

I have the 22mm Eva 'Arkmats' mats. They fit great and don't move. They give a tiny bit but not spongy. Bought them off EBay. Was a great buy, everyone at the yard comments how great they are. I think the 34mm are too thick but that is entirely my personal opinion for my horse.

Great thanks.
Yes really interesting as the chap at easiimat says their mats are made from eva and rubber the arc mats are just Eva. I think the rubber mix mats will be stronger. Jeez this is a tough decision!
