Yesterday I arranged to go on my first proper hack out with new horse Ellis. Met up with a friend and her pony for a bit of company.
Ellis was a superstar, especially as he'd never met the pony either. They quite happily walked side by side, you'd have thought they were best buddies!
We encountered everything from big barking dogs, traffic, other horses, very scary drains that used to spook my last horse, people, cycles and even birds flying out infront of us. (oh and road signs too chriscogul!) He was excellent, had a 'look' at a few things but was easily reassured.
He didn't pull, kept his trot nice and controlled, walked infront or behind or abreast. Nothing really fazed him. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I felt much more confident on him than I ever did on my last horse!

Me and friend stopped for a chat before parting company, he stood like an angel, nuzzling the pony then happily walked back to our own yard alone. Of course I had the biggest grin ever when I got back, and he got the biggest hug!!

That's great, bet you are really pleased. I have days like that as we have recently bought an ex racer and he amazes me at how good he is in traffic and out hacking - novicy hubby hacks him too. They sometimes make it all worthwhile don't they?
Well done
