and the saga continues!
Sian had his x-rays - he has a slightly rotated pedal bone in one hoof. So not a fractured pedal bone, and not another abcess.
Vet has prescribed box rest, heart bar shoes and a pad on the affected foot, and to see him again in 4 weeks. to re-assess. Box rest could be anything from 2 to 6 months

So any words of comfort or advice would be most appreciated. He loves his stable mirror and that has helped calm him a lot (thanks to the kind person who reccommended that!), any other suggestions appreciated?
Damn having to get up and muck out before school! And stupid hay which has to be soaked!

I have a friend whose mare had slight rotation of the pedal bone, she was box rested and shod with heart bars. 12 months on and she is back to normal farriery and can ride her again, I think she did about two months box rest. One of my horses is 3 wks into an expected 3 months of box rest due to a damaged ligament, luckily she has settled quite well with the change in weather and her being a wimpy TB she likes to be out of the wind and rain! I got her a horslyx and she has my gelding's football and manger mate. I'm considering a stable mirror, are they expensive? Good luck with your horse's recovery!

my mirror is a big polished steel one, it was £106 from robinsons, but worth every penny for me as it has really helped calm my horse.
I think you can get acrylic ones cheaper.
Fingers crossed the box rest will not be too long and he will come back into work. Its not like I do a lot with him, but hope I can carry on jumping eventually (only for leisure, not comp, and dont jump anything big!)
Hope your horse makes a speedy recovery MyMills, there are 2 on our yard at the mo with damaged ligaments who are looking at 12 months box rest!
