To be fair there was a dog outside his stable which he doesn't like so it may have been that which got him agitated but I was only walking round him to get his rug when he decided to kick me! I didn't see it coming but luckily it only just connected so, although I have a muddy hoofprint on my thigh and a bruise, it is ok but a bit annoying as he also managed to cut my finger and spin round and stand on my heel yesterday.

So, my question is, does anyone know of a DVD which teaches you how to instill more manners on the ground? I have been loose schooling him a bit recently too because we have no turnout and he has started to try and dominate me in the school. He has charged towards me a few times and then turned and tried to double barrel me. I think he is just trying to get the upper hand and I always face him down but I would like him to have more respect for me as I believe that this leads to better behaviour when ridden? Any advice welcome.

Thanks, Annie x

My horse had NO manners what so ever when he arrived....He would turn round and try and bite you at all times, kicked out a couple of times (never at someone) wouldnt stand still whilst being groomed...etc! but i carried a whip for about a month and everytime he tried to do something i showed him the whip, DID NOT hit him, and he laernt that if he did try anything he would get a tap that is harder than my hard (not mean just a different way of thinking) he was so bl**dy minded that NOTHING else worked!!! this worked and he now has manners, they are not 100% perfect but he wouldnt be him if he was!! this may not work for you:your horse, but it was just my personalm experience!!!

good luck and sorry i dont know any DVDs

I was double barrelled by my pony yesterday evening. The reason behind it was his feed bucket, he didnt want me to touch it (it was empty). Im afraid to say he got a good old fashioned thumping in return. Hes been as good as gold and ultra friendly today and stood back when I put his bucket in and then removed it. Hope it lasts. Mairi.

Mairi, Oliver got a similar thump too but I am now feeling guilty as I have started to wonder if he might be under the weather as he was very sluggish when I schooled him. Hopefully not but I am keeping an eye on him. Glad your boy seems to have learned his lesson though!
