Hi! I have just bought a 6 year old, 16hh tb gelding! He has really bad feet and apparently hasn't had shoes on since September due to being out of work. I hacked him out and he was sound on the road out hacking, but not sure about gravel yet. Due to his feet being terrible, I have been thinking about keeping him unshod as he is hacking out fine at the min and his hooves are cracked etc.
He is a bit skinny (just got him) so he has been on calm and condition which has put a bit of weight on, he doesn't seem to be a really bad doer. What diet should I be feeding him? Something that will hopefully allow him to stay unshod for a while.. I read don't feed much sugar? He is also out with hay and in at night at the min. What would you be feeding him? I have googled but most were aimed at native types but I need something to keep weight on!
Thanks
