My youngest horse that has been on box rest has been going out for 2 weeks now and i've been walking her in hand twice a day, tonight she spooked and was rearing pratting around and i was agaisnt a hedge couldn't get out of the way in time and got full force of a playful buck right in my arm, it bloody hurt!!! got plaster from shoulder to thumb...how am i going to do horses!? any tips? horse seems ok after was caught, praying she is ok in morn and not reinjured herself.

healing vibes needed!!!

Eeek! Huge sympathies.

I've just discovered it's highly likely I've been walking around on a broken foot for a month after Patches stood on it. Got to have x-rays tomorrow or Monday.

I bet you are! It sounds really nasty.

Must admit, my foot has ached for four weeks and is worse when I stand on it for any length of time. Initial bruising has gone but I've been left with a hard pointy lump and a red ring around it. Classic signs I've been told.

I've had four babies though.... I can cope with my foot. You arm sounds REALLY bad! Is it your elbow you've broken, to be in plaster the length of your arm?

Oh no! Had my final outpatient appointment for my broken leg (also horse related) today and I did feel for all the obvious 'new' fracture clinic patients...

Get well soon x

I broke my leg in 3 places and dislocated my ankle at xmas so I have great sympathy with you!!! It was very hard putting lots of young sport horses out in the morning on crutches!!!

Try leading with a lunge line, so no matter what happens you've still got hold of them!!!

ouch! Nasty.... I'd say get a family member to help, but I broke my foot last year and it was more difficult trying to give instructions out than it was to do it myself! I ended up mucking out from a stool in the middle of the stable and getting my boyf to empty the barrow! I hope you're not out of action for too long anyway

Oh I'm really sorry to hear that, poor you

Its a bad enough situation without having to worry about the care of your horses. I hope you find someone to help you.

Get well soon.

I had that same plaster cast a few years ago, along with pins and plates in my jaw and a fractured kneecap. Best tip I have for you is get some of the very long plastic cable ties, they are great for itching round the corners in the plaster cast! I also wound vetwrap round it and over the ends when I was down the yard to stop, hay, straw shavings and horse fur getting into it. Other than that hope you mend soon and take it a bit easier, you will soon find that it's not as inhibiting as it first seems. On my nicer horses I still rode out, but then they are all used to being ridden with one hand anyway. Hope you feel better soon and that the pain starts to subside. Chin up chuck.
