to find some a very faint smattering of white hairs about 4 inches below each side of her withers

Ive had twig 2 years, the first year we bought her we had to make do with a bates isabelle which wasnt hers but fit nicely and she went really well in it. after that i got her her own k2 jump saddle and had it checked twice - once when fitted and then 6 months later. I had used a normal cotton saddle cloth and gelite pad under it but have recently (about 4 weeks ago) changed to a half pad (woolen rambo one) does anyone think it could be this thats causing it? im just so shocked as there has never been any sign of rubbing or bald spots or anything like that?! and even more confusing is when the saddle is on there is no obvious pressure in the area where they are.

Im getting her back done monday as the past week she has started carrying her back end over to the left again (this is a problem we had last year) and has been very crabby and 'humpy' which is most unlike her. so will see what the back lady says, if not, then i guess its another call to the saddle fitter.

Now this is the very first time we have ever clipped this area and its such a tiny spot on each side it could be an old thing from the very first saddle we used on her which we couldnt see with 'normal hair'. what do others think?

The same has happened to me, except my pony has lots of white hair there. He was very very fat when I got him and it was difficult to find a saddle that didn't end up under his belly!

He's fine now and has his saddle checked and re-flocked etc every year; I wouldn't worry, as long as she's not in pain and her saddle fits well. It is a bit unsightly tho isn't it!

My horse got white patches in his wither hollows after having a saddle professionally fitted and I was horrified and dreadfully upset that it could have happened. Sadly they are unsightly but as long as saddle/back are ok its fine!!

Our little pony had a ma-housive white patch come up under neath where her saddle goes a couple of years ago. This was just after we had had a new saddle fitted to her- I was absolutely gutted. Anyway - saddle was confirmed as ok - and then i thought maybe it was her driving harness that has caused it - but no apparently not!

Anyway - she has a massive white patch for about 6 months, and then all the white hairs went when she changed coat again.

I never found out the cause of it - and they just grew out. I have seen this happen a couple of other times with other horses to.

My horse had the same as his coat changed, got saddler out asap and he is 99% sure the saddle didnt cause them. Also my horse showed no soreness in that area. The saddle wasnt 100% though just due to him changing shape so much, have got a new one now, and white hairs have gone again.
