Going to hit 40 later this year, and I really want to run a race before then! Have entered Killerton event - anyone else intending to enter any of the events this year?

And any advice please from people who have done it before? The training won't be too much of a problem, once my kne operation is out of the way (it's mid March).

Thats great news. Is this THE race for life for cancer? Didnt realise they were advertised already. I did it last year and it was so rewardiing. My Mum died from cancer in 2006 and it was so emotional crossing the finnishing line. I promised to train but didnt do anything and amazed myself by running probably 90% of it. the atmosphere just keeps you going. We did walk up the big hills but to be honest if you walk the whole way it wouldnt matter. I was stiff for a couple of days but its so so worth it. Well done and thank you for supporting such a worthy cause.

Good for you! Myself & Krash 'n' Burn and her sister did the one in Cardiff last year. We both lost grandparents to cancer and my OH lost his best friend at 16. It is quite emotional, especially when you write the names of those in who's name you run on the tabard for your back.

Go to the Race for Life website and have a look at the training plans there. I have never run before in my life, nearly collapsed the first time I had to run 4 mins and in 8 weeks or so managed to get to running 5k in 35 mins, which considering the amount of people that get in the way is quite good! We trained in the woods around our yard, which meant we ran x-country, on roads and up&down hills, which made the flat park paths quite easy. I would try to get a running partner, as we pushed each other on and had a good opportunity to gossip!

Above all, good luck and well done!

Just be careful, I did the race for life a few years back having never really run in my life or had the figure to run just to prove I could do it - 6mths later I ran the Bristol half marathon and 6mths after that I ran the London Marathon!! Then attempted a xc half mararthon, got my foot stuck down a rabbit hole and broke my ankle - haven't run since!!

Wishing you the best of luck, it's amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it!

Eeeeek, so have I
