I've seen a lot of posts recently about members getting over their fears and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone.

What have you done this week, with your Horse to make you proud in the last week?

Mine would be yesterday. Ever since a bolting accident 2 and half years ago, I have had a fear about riding in open spaces. There is a lovely little grass track near me that we have a canter down (behind another rider) Well yesterday we found that the council had cut down the bushes and made the track wider. The other riders were estatic, However I was being a complete wuss about it. I coudn't get the thought out of my head that my Horse would overtake the leading Horse and bomb off with me. Wereas the narrow track made me feel more secure as she couldn't overtake even if she wanted too. The others suggested a canter so I went with them :D I was very proud of myself and glad I pushed myself and done it. I still have a way to go, but Atleast I'm heading in the right direction.

Well done! :D
I own a 16.1hh sharp DWB mare. She is spooky and not easy to ride, put it this way, she has alot of her own natural energy ;)
So on Sunday, after 2 weeks of doing nothing with her I just hopped on! Spurs and all, and she was amazing.
So last night rode again and went one better, we had a canter
Only one mind because I couldn't actually calm her down after the first one, trot was just.. roadrunner! But you know what we did it! She didn't canter off as she has done in the past. She hasn't spooked at a damned thing! And tonight I am going to take her down the road for a 15min solo hack  Wish me luck!

Well done guys!

On our last two hacks we have had canters - one was the fastest canter we have ever had and in a field (canter and fields are big scaredy things for me!) and one was long and steady downhill (downhills is another silly thing I am wet about!). Admittedly they were rather scary, but I felt really chuffed that I didn't wimp out. To put the cherry on top we shall school tomorrow and I will canter. As you might have noticed canter is something I get worried about and avoid where possible, but we are working on improving our counter canter and there is only so much improvement you can make while not cantering!!! I can't wimp out now as I have told you guys!!

Well done everyone! :)

I've hurt my ankle and it is a b*t(h to put it in a riding boot, let alone a stirrup. My horse has the bounciest trot EVER, but I've forced myself every day this week to ride without stirrups because he needs exercising. I warm up with stirrups, rising trot etc, and grit my teeth, but then once he's warmed through and loosened up, I take them away. The first couple of days were hilarious - bone shaking and I thought I would come off - but last night I got the slowest, most collected, floaty and comfortable trot he's ever given me. I felt like a real dressage pro, floating on top of my beautiful horse. Even my RI, who is super-critical, popped in and exclaimed 'Oh, isn't that a lovely trot he's giving you'.

Just goes to show, it is good to push through your comfort zones because there's usually something even better on the other side!!

So this week I have cantered without stirrups around my field. Taken horse out for hack and cantered down various lanes (usually a big no no for me after he took off with me in Feb) and not even lanes with hedges blocking the end!!!!

Then to top it all off took him out on solo hack in the wind today!!! He hates the wind and is extra spooky. We got past the back of neighbours farm no probs even with various bird scarers flapping in the wind, past flapping plastic borders which had been cut down between posts and we had to go between. No probs, but just spooks at varous things that he shouldn't be scared of after passing all the flappy things??!! No canter though as trot was enough with giraffe neck, and sideways freaking out!! But we did it!!!!!

Well done to all you others who have gone for it this week and pushed your comfort zones!!!!

I'm going to look at a horse tomorrow and I am very excited about that, if that counts?
Apart from that I work at a certain farming and equestrian store and I always feel really good when people ask my for advice and I know what I'm talking about :)

Well done everyone! :)

Took my young mare out on a two hour hack on her own yesterday. That was one of our longest hacks on our own! Also, she is learning to do gates, and managed to negotiate some pretty scary things (including a tractor trimming hedges!) So I was very pleased with her. :)

It's not riding but I'm progressing to getting pony used to velcro.
Just standing outside her stable and fastening/unfastening it to get her used to noise.

She's not brave enough to come to me but I can go to her, walk around stable and if stand in front of her, she is starting to stretch her neck and sniff it - while I'm making the noise.

This is the pony that jumped out of field and took off down road when taking velcro mask off of her!
