Gosh time flies!!!!!!!!!!!

African Dawn was such a beautiful mare just my sort of arab and what a lovely temperament she must have had.
Wonderful picture.

She was a real sweetie at home and more stunning than the photo does her justice, but on the race track she was a speed demon. Claire use to cool her off after work, did you notice the no shoes, my kids ran round the desert bare footed. Gosh the things we use to do, H&S would be all over me know!!!!

She only ever got beaten once and that was by a horse we later found out was actually an Anglo!!! We did not really have many rules for racing at that time here, just the basics, so we took people by their word!!

Its a lot different now.

Your right it has got so proffesional.
I used to work for someone that raced pure breds and Anglos in this country about 12 years ago and things have moved on so much here since then.
Some of them even allow lowly rated TB's in the races now which is bizarre but i suppose it gives them something to do.

Thank you!

Lovely to see the Queenie-baby - he looks so sweet, and quite similar to Darrar, Queenie's foal by my first stallion, General Lee Gold; same 'high white' markings! Darrar went on to be an international endurance horse - his owner/rider says he was the best she'd ever ridden. Did your boy do endurance as well? Who was his sire?

African Dawn looks beautiful - and what a lovely temperament for a racehorse to be ridden by a 4yo! Mind you, Claire looks like an amazingly good rider even at that age - look at her position, her hands, everything! Wow!

What was African Dawn's breeding?

I looooove Pedruga! Stunning mare - very like her illustrious sire, who is one of my all-time favourite Arabs.

I don't have a photo of the wonderful Dancing Queen, but this is her most famous daughter, Queens Topaz (by Midnight Gold):

QUEENSTOPAZ.jpg

As well as producing superb performance horses, Dancing Queen won the Princess Muna Saddle of Honour for her family group at the national show - the highest in-hand accolade for an Arab broodmare. And every single one of her daughter Topaz's many foals is a major show champion (including the recent HOYS ridden Arab champion Toman). This is a remarkable line for both show and performance.

Great to see your photos - thanks so much for digging these out!

Dancing Queen was indeed a mare of a life time. He did not do endurance unfortunately, as I am sure he would have excelled at it. I can't for the life of me remember who his father was, I must be getting old!!!!. At that time my husband was training race horses, endurance hadn't even started over here. He ran on the track, but although keen, he wasn't very fast, to be honest he was down right slow!!!, he also wasn't very big probably around 14.2 I think.

African Dawn, she was bred by Pat Westwood, by the stallion African Gold out of the mare Meshel by Magnet. She was around 15.2hh and a stunning mover. If she was still around I would definitely have taken her for dressage, I am sure she would have gone all the way to GP, she was an angel. Claire loved riding her, she had her ponies at the time, but wanted to be like mum and dad and ride the big horses. With me as her mother (a riding teacher) she had no choice but to ride correctly, I am such a task master!!!!

I really loved that breeding lines, it produced super strong arabians, with both power and elegance.

Here is the other photo I promised you, our Shagya Arab mare Brenta. Do you think that His Highness will be impressed with the two ladies.

One thing for sure is he will improve their profiles, very workman like arabs, but both Pedruga and Brenta competed at the top level of their sport.

As we are talking Arabs, I just had to post this picture, on of my all time favourites of last season.

Here is Foxtrot ridden by Layla my youngest daughter, Foxtrot is the ultimate endurance horse, he won 3 races last season, and in this country that means CARS!!!!!!!

He is going out on the last 14km loop of a 120km race, full of running and enthusiasm, he is such a star.

Here he is coming over the finish line, the winner.

Was just about to ask if African Dawn was related to African Gold. I used to work for Mrs Westwood, I never knew him but I did have the pleasure of meeting some of his babys!

She is stunning! Both mares are superb, and His Highness will be very impressed indeed - I've already told him what an honour and privilege this is for him (of course he just snorted and looked smug - trying to make Tobago feel humble is a hopeless task, I'm afraid; that song 'You're So Vain' should be his theme tune...)

A super FEI-level endurance mare called Bright Dreamer is in foal to him for 2009, so it will be interesting to see what she produces, and the amazing GB Team member Sharifah is booked for next year. She was supposed to visit this year, but there was a last-minute change to her competition schedule, so her Anglo stablemate Phezan (sp?) took her place. I'll try to get photos of Dreamer's and Phezan's babies for you as soon as they arrive!

The Sharifah breeding will be by Embryo Transfer, so she can carry on competing. Have you ever done this with your girls?

She's a 'workmanlike' type as well - 16hh and very powerful - but I think rather beautiful too, don't you?:

Sharifah.jpg

I should have photos and an update soon on His Highness's colt out of the Advanced mare Burrowshot Lass - she's a TB x ID and this foal has a dishy face, so you may be right about the profiles LOL!

I do realise that he is an incredibly lucky boy to get all these splendid endurance mares so early in his career!

I can't stop drooling over your photos - those mares are simply magnificent. Oh, just noticed that that bloke on the other grey is ogling your daughter, cheeky so and so!!

That is a very lovely endurance mare, just the type my husband admires, should be a match made in heaven. What an exciting season it will be next year seeing all the babies.

It is very exciting about which mares have decided to seek out the services of such a handsome example of Arabian breeding. I can't wait to see them all under saddle in the future.

He was a lovely stallion, and passed on his super temperament to them all, African Dawn would be one horse that I wish was still around now, she was a superb lady, but unfortunately we never bred from her. I do not agree with breeding in the UAE, it is just not the right place for babies to grow up. No green fields to run and play in. It was such a waste that she never passed on her genes to the next generation.

Thank you again! The Sharifah-baby won't be till 2010, of course, assuming all goes well with the ET.... but should be worth waiting for, I think!

That Foxtrot looks really super too - what's his breeding?

Is his mane hogged? I haven't seen that before - I suppose it is to help keep him cool?

How wonderful to have all these amazing endurance horses as well as your dressage and sj champions!

(I confessed to cruiseline that when she first joined I thought she must be a troll or fantasist or something - her collection of star horses sounded just too good to be true LOL!

WFA Foxtrot, as he is officially know
wink.gif
is by the stallion Abitibi (Cheri Bibi) out of the mare Rodanieh Rusalka (Rodanieh Rushime) and was bred by the Bancroft's

His mane is hogged, we tend to do that on some of the horses, as it is amazing how much heat is held under a full mane. Others, like the pretty girls and ones that we are going to show (which is not very often) we plait up with a running plait.

They are treated like competition horses and, if I can get my own way
wink.gif
I do a mass clean up of manes before the season starts. Layla is a real girly girl and loves them to have their long flowing locks for as long as possible, so I usually send her out on a shopping trip, then get stuck in, its too late by the time she gets back- all done.
