well i've just had my last jumping lesson for a while and it was excellent :D
i'm so pleased with the muppet's progress.
we started off with my dad warming him up (was his horse and he wanted a ride for old times sake) before i got on a had a wee canter round to get my proper 12ft stride.

the first fence was a gate about 50cms, which we popped over no problem. then we moved on to an 8-stride related distance at about 70cms - we had a bit of a motor-biking issue around the corner but managed to sort it out by riding a sort of rectangle shape so was happy with that :p

the next element was a half circle back round to a plank and this caused all sorts of problems. i couldn't get jerry to land on the correct lead over fence two so i had to try to bring him back to trot and pick up the correct lead before going round the corner to jump 3 (needless to say, it got a bit messy with me having to really ride forwards into the fence to make up for our corner). 3-4 was a 7 stride dog leg, which didn't cause any issues.

fences 5, 6 & 7 were all related distances (4 and then 7 on the inside track) and then it was a half circle to come back on ourselves into fence 8, which was a 2-stride double.
After the first attempt at the full course, all the jumps went up to around 1m.
I was super pleased that we managed to do 1.15 for the final attempt at the second element and even managed to get a nice picture where im not pulling faces :p

it's at times like these thats makes it all worth it  but wow, im knackered and so's jerry :o

cookies and magners for all that have made it through my gushing :D
pics to follow once my dad emails them to me :o

it's taken almost a year of having him and lessons with martin arnott every 2 weeks to get to the point where im confident over 1.15-1.20. my last lesson with martin (ages ago now due to horse injuries), it took me 3 attempts to summon enough courage (or balls :p) to jump a single 1.20 fence but i was glad i did it because it made me feel so much better about my riding.
we're not the tidiest couple in the sj ring :D

Well you're jumping about 1.15-1.20 higher than me at the moment so I am in awe of your courage! :D

I'm giving myself and Monty another couple of weeks to get to know each other (and for me to remember how to ride and balance him) and then I'm going to suck it up and see what he can do over fences. I figure that if I keep them small to begin with, being 17hh he can step over them so it can't go too wrong :D

And I am blaming you for the fact that I am now sitting with a can of Bulmers!

lol i may just go have a can myself - im well chuffed :D

i did x-poles the other day on mine - he didn't even jump them!
I once saw a horse break canter and walk over a 40cm jump as if to say "im so insulted, i'm going to walk over that" :p

my aim is 1.30m - the horse can do it easily. my crazy dad has had him over 1.55  but he's a bit old for that now - the most we've had him over recently is 1.40 and it was scary enough watching it from the ground

well done for deciding to attempt jumping - be warned: its addictive! :D

i finally have pictures :D

be gentle, please - i know my position isn't great

I LOVE your position, and your horse. You look like you'd be very tidy indeed- you want untidy? See me trying to make the ginger giant I'm borrowing trot... Not happening!

Thanks :)
It always feels really messy and rushed even though im told i have the correct driving canter.
Jerry's a brilliant teacher but he's getting on a wee bit so I've stopped jumping more than twice a week and we only do "big" fences at the end.

My aim is to get over 1.30 by the end of this season
