I'm back in work today (had yesterday off to recover!) having had the best weekend for ages (well, since the same weekend last year!) I went to the Gower for a weekend with my riding club - 20 of us in all, although we rode in smaller groups. My ex-hunter gets a bit excited in a big group so we stuck to a group of 5!

We stayed here: www.piltonmoorstables.co.uk
It's fab, good post and rail paddocks or lovely airy stables for the horses, while we slept in the trailers and had a barbecue in the barn! The owners can't do enough to help - picking up a lame horse one day, fixing a broken trailer the next and giving us a lift to the pub!

We were really lucky with the weather and the riding is the best I have ever known - 5 hours on staurday with only 30 mins of really quiet roads, and then the beach on sunday before we came home. I just wish I could have stayed there longer, although I was pleased to see a proper bed on Sunday night! I would add some pics but my boy won't stand still long enough for me to get the camera out!
I had to share it, as it was just such a great weekend!

Oh wow what a lovely weekend. I am green and positively fizzing with envy!

I believe the broken trailer may have been a friend of my mums ? After the horse made an exit out of the jockey door ?

Glad you had a lovely time

Yes!! Sounded scary when she told us so I can't imagine what it was like to see a 16.3 wiggle its way out of it. As you said luckily he is ok

It wasn't so much the coming out of the jockey door as the getting stuck with front legs over the breaching bar, head through jockey door and back legs 2 feet in the air! Once he'd freed his legs the jockey door was no obstacle! I was trying to get the front ramp down so he'd have an alternative route out, but I'm quite glad I didn't manage it now as he'd probably have trampled me. It was 5 minutes of an otherwise lovely weekend though!

I am astounded he fitted through the jockey door! Sol and B are the same size and I'm sure she wouldn't fit !

Glad it was otherwise a great weekend !
How long did it take you to get there from Cardiff? A few friends were considering doing the same but one horse is a stressy traveller and we haven't found somewhere close enough!

He didn't - hence the broken trailer! The side buckled out so the opening was wider, but still not quite sure how he did it as I was the other side.

It took us about 1 1/2 hours to get there, longer to get home as the traffic through Swansea was a nightmare. I drive quite slowly though - never over 50 even on the motorway so you could do it quicker maybe! You could also stop for a ride at Kenfig on the way down if you wanted the stressy one to have a break. It's well worth the trip if you can make it there.

Ahhh I see , my mum was convinced he'd fitted through (she's not horsey!)

1hr30 isn't too bad (we were looking at 3hrs plus and going for 3/4days) so its a definate one to look into (even if I have a fear of the beach
