Last summer (July?) Rosie applied for a TASS award (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) and in due course heard that she'd been unsuccessful. It's worth £3k towards training costs etc but I believe only people in full time education are eligible. So, she was disappointed but never mind. Then she decided to leave school after Autumn half-term having forgotten all about the TASS thing. Guess what, they've just been in touch to tell her her application was successful after all - too b***y late

Maybe, just maybe, if they'd made up their minds a bit sooner, she would still be at school studying for A-levels, doh.

Get her back to school now!!!!!Grhhhhhhh!!! How annoying!!! I would check out the award though and come up with a good excuse as to why she left etc...........try it....they may buy it.. who knows!!!!

Good idea - she could say she had to leave to earn money so she could pursue her athletic goals (not entirely untrue as it's so expensive). I'll tell her to write to them and that she should think about going back to school - they said she'd be welcome to return! Thank you.

i think distance learning counts though - I'm sure some of the older lot on TASS were studying via the Open University to be eligible to receive the funding. So ride during the day & study of an evening!

Worth a quick call to find out!

TASS is not paid to the person, only to the establishments providing training it runs from Oct to the following Sept (academic year) 1st so she may be able to do something backdated

Thanks for all the suggestions - maybe she could reclaim some of the money she spent on training before she left school.
