Any chance you can help me. New to here and after advice already!!

What bedding do you all recommend???

cheers and will check back in later

personally i like rape straw (finely chopped straw) or fine shavings but shavings are so expensive these days - rape straw is cheaper.

Used to use straw because it was free & my girls had no allergies.

Swapped to shavings though purely for ease of use & to stop my fat little welsh C eating her bed!

Have also used hemp but my horse was so messy it became very expensive as I couldn't manage the bed in the correct manner.

I think it depends on the horse and the yard some will only use shavings, I always preferred mine on straw as long as its not dusty as she is soooo wet bless her and if she had an automatic waterer she would play all day in it so shavings would get rather expensive!! Tried paper and hated it imo. What i did find work was when i had her on semi deep litter i used hemp in the areas she would like to pee then add shavings on top but i still mucked her out twice a week. Not sure if this helps.

Another vote for wood pellets. I can store months worth in the same size space I used to use for a few weeks worth , I can actually carry the bags without doing myself in and they are working out pretty economical.

I hate wood pellets. Dusty when dry and to keep them damp (even if they feel dry they arent) you have to mix some of the wee in with them. A haven for bacteria! And few makes are made from virgin wood, meaning there are lots of chemicals and irritants in them.

i use paper (mucked out fully every day) because it is very absorbant and there is no ammonia or dust. With any other bedding bar cardboard you usually get ammonia, dust or both. They key to reducing ammonia is absorbancy and paper is the most absorbant bedding available.

You don't have to mix wee into them, you can use water:)

i really love Ecobed cardboard bedding, if you have a horse with any problems with allergies or dust then it's the best. however, I am using Spalding Gardener wood pellets at the moment (v local) and am impressed, they're very absorbent and not dusty. have tried Liverpool Wood Pellets and although they're beautifully white I found them very dusty.
