I just need to write everything down for future reference for myself and just to vent all my frustrations/hopes/dreams etc (haha
)
Sorry in advance if this is a totally pointless post!!
So got my first horse 7 months ago - she was sold as a novice ride which isnt untrue as such but is a LOT greener than I was told. Anyways, that aside we had a great first few months - we hacked alone, in company, went to a few shows and I really couldnt believe my luck finding such a great horse!
Fast forward a few months and we start to school a bit more and have lessons - turns out her schooling is not great and is very green so I start having weekly lessons.
We had a little scare that knocked both our confidence and the hacking started to decrease due to my confidence issues.
We moved yards which unsettled her a lot more than I expected and have been taking tiny baby steps with hacking which is VERY frustrating as just a few months ago we were having great fun hacking through the woods - exploring new hacks etc.
When I moved to the new yard, I decided to try a classical riding instructor to help improve my seat etc as I felt I wasnt doing this with my other instructor. This new instructor turned out to be fab however I basically have to learn to ride again! Everything I had been doing with my green mare in previous months has taught her really bad habits
She has also just been diagnosed with cushings (she is only 8) and had a physio out as she was incredibly tight in her right shoulder so poor girl hasnt been feeling 100%
I am hoping that now I have identified the "issues" we can really move forward. My plan is to continue with weekly lessons and try to get back out hacking at weekends (hacking during the week is impossible due to working hours).
I am really dedicated to working her 6 days a week - I know this is going to be tough at times but I want to lunge twice a week, school once a week alone and once a week with my instuctor and hack twice a week.
You guys dont know my horse but how long is realistic to get her working to a standard where we can compete at local shows etc? Nothing to tricky, maybe just a little dressage test or equitation class. I am thinking if I stick to my schedule as much as poss we could be looking at being in a good place by next spring?
Thank you if you have made it this far - bit of a pointless post really but just had to get my thoughts off my chest!
