OK I rode my mare nearly 2 weeks ago and she didn't feel quite right, got off and trotted up subtley lame so I gave her few days in field, next trot up still subtley lame so gave her another week off in the field. Trotted up this am (on not a great surface and rug on - will trot on road tonight and no rug). But if still lame/ not right not sure what to do? No point in the vet as no heat, swellings etc and they'll either make me make it worse or turn away.

She slipped in field a week before this so I am wondering if she has tweaked something muscular and whether i should get back person to have a look? Blooming horses! And she'd been going so well

Give her a few more days off. I thought my horse had tweaked something in the field, Lameness was intermittent called out vet, danilon and rest, still lame, more danilon and rest. Another vet looked at him and thinks he has arthritis, high low ring bone, side bone, pedal osteitis and possible navicular - he is going to the vet school for x-rays now.

If she is still lame, call out the vet. 'when lame, there is pain' as the saying says.

I hope she is ok.

Samp. I don't think this helps any but I'm in almost exactly the same situation except mines been going on a bit longer. Had the osteo out a couple of weeks ago who found a sore spot high up on his off hind (said probably a 'fooling around in the field injury')...massaged and said give him a week of light hacking to keep it moving and then bring him back into normal work. Still sore after a week, so he's had a week off on Danilon and still 'just not right'.

Tried to call my osteo again this morning but she's not got back to me yet and now sitting wondering whether to phone the vet, but like you, I feel like I know what he's going to say!!!

Arggh.....

If lameness is visible to the eye it is enough to be able to nerve block to find out where lamness lies. It has been 2 weeks of rest now, which vet would normally suggest to start with if no obvious other symptons.
Personally now I would ring vet & book in for lameness workup. no point getting vet out first. At least then you will have answers.

Thanks Doris2008 I used to work for an equine vet and I know that they would want me to work my horse in to the ground to make the lameness more obvious as nerve blocking a horse that is 1/10th lame is pretty hit and miss and you can throw your money away

try cold hosing arinca and vets for a few days if that not worked maybe call vet/farrier to make sure there is no abcess going on or the ostepath to make sure not pulled some thing@!

You must have had bad vets. My horse was 1/10th lame did nerve blocks and diagnosed PSD, confirmed with a scan.

If mine had been lame that long I would have the vet out - well I did.

Thanks guys, well I trotted up last night on tarmac (our yard is a bit stoney) and she was sound but I would say appeared stiff in her action so I think she has possibly pulled a muscle/ has tightness that needs some work with the back person so I will be calling them today
