Self pitying post of my lill grey pocket rocket. In march she suddenly went lame and was diagnosed with advanced spavin which the vet couldnt do anything for. Until mother nature takes its course the best option is to turn away for 4-6months and let it heal and her be a horse!
If anyone has had their horses turned away for this length of time or longer how do you cope not riding your field ornament? Im not so bad i have 2 other horses so wont get riding withdrawals from that, but i will from her. Im so saddened i miss the eventing season and im hoping for the drag season she will be fixed.

She'll love it !! and as you have other horses to ride you won't be badly off.

I know you'll miss her but let's hope she comes back sound ok, bone spavin is by no means easily curable (sorry to be less than optimistic) but 4 to 6 months in a field is not bad at all, trust me!!

Good luck and be patient.

It will go by really, really quickly and you'll be back riding her in no time! When she is back to work you will be really glad you let her have all the time she needed to heal properly and you will have many more years together.

Not to sound totally miserable but mine has been on and off work for 2 years now with spavin, I'm at my wits end and don't know where to go next. If your vet thinks 4-6months off is all she needs then that will pass very quickly. I have just taken on an 18 year old gelding to give me something to do!
