My westie had just one pup last Thursday..we had hoped for more but only one arrived. My question is as she has no litter mates (an only child) is there anything I should do to help her play and encourage social development when she is ready to leave the welping box? My last litter had five pups and they all played rough games as pups do and I'm worried that this little one is going to miss out on these important early lessons.I have given her a cuddly toy to snuggle up against as mum is beginning to leave the welping box for short periods of time. Any advise please.... :0)

When our Bichon had pups last year, the first puppy was large, deformed & breach which stopped the oxygen supply to the next 2 pups, all 3 died & so we were only left with the last (4th) pup who thankfully made it. Mum taught him how to play & he learned everything from mum that he needed to.. he thinks his boss, maybe because he didn't have any other brothers & sisters to put him in his place or anyone to compete with but he's just a normal socialised playful little boy..no odd or naughty traits about him! He knows how to play & socialise with other dogs..no problems!
