"I love this show and look forward to it every year but seriously ITV, what the hell are you doing putting those horses through that? Do you have professionals advising you on their behavior? could you not see they were distressed?

Needless to say I am most displeased!

But, I must say, Sam Fox you are AMAZING for doing that!

I have just complained to Ofcom and suggest that anyone concerned do the same.

Horses are abused enough in this country without making their distress the object of entertainment. Absolutely disgraceful.

Nice one Happytohack - I think in the circumstances, if we don't speak up no-one will. Even my partner (non horsey) felt uncomfortable watching that scene. I won't stop watching IAC - I love the show just wish they'd put more thought into what happened. I'm sure they had a big bale of hay after!

I thought it was horrible and completely unnecessary of them to do that to those horses. I'm surprised that they were actually allowed to do that.. awful.

kind of have to agree here. Whilst it was stupid to send them without a guide when they clearly didn't have a clue what they were doing, I'm sure the horses were fine. They seemed to know their job and until they reached the river they seemed pretty relaxed. It all seems a bit ott to me

Horses looked fine to me. I bet they've done that a million times before.
Ok, so the celebs weren't the most graceful but there will have been people there to help them and the horses.

I would be VERY surprised if there weren't professionals off-camera advising and supporting.

Some of the bits in the water were a bit

but I should imagine they are experienced trekking horses used to having numpties riding them- much like trekking ponies in this country get hauled about by people who don't know any better.

The horses didn't look happy in the river, but I didn't see anything amounting to 'abuse' I don't think.

At the end of the day, the riders were at more danger than the horses.

think the uproar is well OTT. horses didn't look like they were traumatised and i'm sure they do it all the time (they werent too reluctant about going in), they were probably more upset/concerned by all the noise form the celebrities than the swim itself.

I think there are much more serious cases of cruelty that need attention.

Totally agree .... watched the clip on the link posted particulary looking for distress - did not see any (certainly none to write home about). Agree the appoloosa's rider was too heavey for it - but they would have had experts their ensuring the welfare of the animals.
I have riden in Austraila many times and this is the the terrain the horses are used to, so they are very sure footed - balanced rider or not.

I thought it was simply plain stupid putting people, some of who had never ridden before on the horses and making them cross the river in the first place!

I think they should have put some neckstraps on them and told the riders hold on and let the horse take you across.

the numpties cant ride so they wouldnt of put them on horses that didnt know thier job. horses do leap and jump a bit when they get in to deep water thats why they went of course cos riders were hanging on to their mouths and not mane or neckstrap

The jimmy white bit was the worst part getting his foot stuck.

I agree. It was lucky he was in shallow water and the horse didn't panic...... otherwise it could have been a real disaster

I love watching no list celebs make total twats of themselves
just to be on TV, reminds me of th Magic Christian where people swim in sewage to retrieve money floating around in it.

I thought the horses seemed to know their job, but didnt like the way their mouths were getting yanked about by obvioulsy total novices trying to hang on

I have been swimming on horseback in Oz - it is very common there and they have beaches dedicated to it - BUT I / we knew what we were doing, they love doing it and we were bareback for a start - there should NOT be saddles on them weighing them down and there should NOT be idiots on them yanking their poor mouths off
