DEFRA know from emails I have sent that the largest abattoir in France is importing horses from Spain each week. I recently met with a senior member of French National Stud and had a similar conversation.

I know that many of these horses have no passports. Both organisations have said the same to me namely horses should have correct paperwork and this should be checked.

As any International Horse Transport Company will tell you there is only one EU state which DOES check documentation - UK. There are no border controls in Europe.
