Hi all. After lurking around the forums, I decided to register and join the fun!
I have ridden most of my life, though had a break of about five years due to change in life circumstances, and have been riding again ( lessons 2-3 times a week) for a few months now and wondering how I ever did without it. Riding skills are returning, slowly.
I have had my own horses most of my life, have competed at low levels of dressage and show jumping, and hacked. Of course being re-bitten by the horse bug I am now shopping for a horse of my own. I realise it might take awhile to find the right one. But it is somewhat frustrating, as there does not seem to be much on the market in between green horses and competition horses in search of a new life that do not cost a fortune.
I am willing to look at anything that is plausible-- I used to get on anything and ride it, and was not bothered by green, but now I am wondering if that is the right way to go. The ground gets harder over the years. On the other hand, I do not want to have a horse that only has a few servicable years left and struggle with what to do with it in a few years time if it is no longer rideable. I would like to do some unaffiliated dressage and perhaps jumping, and if it is fun and goes well, perhaps try some affiliated shows.
The search for a horse is frustrating. I know it takes time and patience to find the right one-- but the good ones seem to vanish in a flash!
