Sooo sad!! I took a ride out at the riding school i worked in years ago and was a girls first ever ride on a pony and he dropped dead under her :-( traumatic for everyone on many counts :-( x
Thie same thing happened near here some years ago. Girl out for first ride - alone - on her very smart new horse. It was a blazing hot day. The horse had a heart attack, reared up, over backwards and dropped dead with her underneath. Apart from a crushed leg she was ultimately OK. She had only walked the horse for the whole ride.
I heard she hadn't got round to insuring the poor fella either!
Something similar happened at a yard near us and the rider was killed, so sad. I also know an instructor whose horse died under him, luckily he got off without being injured.
A similar thing happened at a Pony Club rally a few years ago - the child had just trotted round jumped the small jump and come back to the group in walk, pony just lay down and died - just a 10yr old pony too.
Child was OK fortunately and instructor was quick and took the group for a hack around the grounds while a parent placed a truck between kids and pony.
Another one I can remember was at the team Horse trials a horse coming into the bank jump just never left the ground - just collapsed and died in front of the fence.
My first horse died of a heart attack, I was riding him at the time but thankfully realised something wasn't right and got off him. It was incredibly traumatic for me, but quick for him.
How very sad for all concerned, thoughts going to them xx
It happened to me. My first horse died whilst I was riding him. We were out hacking and he dropped down dead. Luckily we were only walking and I had decided to take my feet out of the stirrups so I got thrown off when he reared up. But still very very hard to witness. It still upsets me.
