Just so you know £5000 vets insurance is NOT enough

apart from colic most companies only offer £5k
Well my horse has PSD and had surgery surgery cost and care was £1900 £2000 for diagnostics £700 from first vet and £700 post op care from my vet

We still have to go back to liverpool for check ups too

Not just apart from colic! My bill for colic (4 days in total) was nearly £8K and vet surgeon warned me from the start that the bill would exceed insurance max. I don't know if any insurance company covers more than that. Owners need to be aware of that, and make decisions at the time of medical crisis accordingly. If I was skint, I might have made different decisions at the time.

My horse's PSD diagnosis, surgery and follow up - we are now at the 12 week post surgery stage so two trips back to horspital for check ups, plus hock injections for a spavin have so far totally £3,500. I don't think Rossdales are that cheap either. I suspect that by the end of the year we shall hilt the £5k.

As for Colic, having seen how much it cost a client (around £8k for a simple lipoma removal) I would seriously consider whether I could afford it even with insurance.

Yes, my horse went to diagnostics at Rossdales, who found and did surgery on her PSD, and we didn't exceed the £5K max.

But yes, vet bills can, of course, exceed the £5K limit. Keeping horses is expensive, we all know that, right?!

My horses PSD diganosis and treatment (no surgey) currently stands at about 3k. He won't be having surgery as I don't think its fair to do so.
