ongoing from my post below- just spoken to a senior partner at the hospital who has said the issues sound neurological to him. he has suggested we could try cortazone injections for 2 weeks- i presume into his back or pelvic area- has anyone exp of this???

My horse was diagnosed with kissing spine and had a cortisone injection in her back but it didn't seem to do a great deal to be honest

My YO's rescued Section A had what can only be described as a "funny turn" a couple of years ago. Long ripples of tremor running through her big muscles, appearing dazed or even blind for hours, wobbly on feet, not responding to anything, suddenly very cold. Vets could find nothing wrong but the first of these "turns" followed a visit from the dentist where the pony got into a blind panic and ended up throwing herself head first into a wall. It seemed to be neurological, so after much consideration of the accompanying risk of laminitis, the pony had a steroid injection since the anti-inflammatory effects would (it was hoped) help any inflammation going on in the brain. Partially successful although simply the passage of time has been the most beneficial.

Hi Box of Frogs. My dentist tells me he has had horses collapse (invariably arabs) when he has been doing their teeth. The little pony sounds to me like it was having seizures. One of the neurological tests is to lift the head and make the animal step back - this can trigger a seizure. Sounds a lot like what happens when the gag is put in to me. Having an epileptic horse myself I've discovered that seizures are prevalent in the welsh breeds (could of course be a skewed statistic due to their popularity, but when you hear of cases abroad you start to wonder...) Glad she seems to have got over it though!
