I have been very ill recently and am concerned my horses. Cappy will always stay with me, no one else would put up with him. Fany is lovely and I would never sell her.

So I have been thinking of putting her out on loan.
She is a bombproof (as any horse can be) hack, not a competition horse but a weight carrier. She is 14-2hh and is a very kind natured mare, no silliness when in season and gets on well with geldings or mares. Hacks out alone or in company. The calmest gentlest kindest mare I have ever met.

She is extremely cheap to keep, not shod. Only needs trimming every 8 weeks. No hard food and no need for rugs. Will live in or out but would prefer her in at night during winter.

Do you think anyone would be interested? I have thought of the RDA as they seem to like Ardennes.

Please don't push the button this is most definitely not an advert I am just canvassing opinions.

Sorry to hear that you have been ill, hope things are improving for you.

Your mare sounds lovely and I am sure there would be lots of people who would be interested in her, I know I would be if you were closer!

Not so sure about the RDA, I know our group have the horses on a part loan basis and they are brought to the school once a week when our group meets.

sorry about you being ill.
yes I do think there is a place out there willing to loan her. You dont mention if she is ok if ridden occasionally or if she needs consistant work, if she is the first one then I think she will be very very easy to loan out but if not it may be slightly harder for her this time of year with limited day light. RDA may be another path as they often like heaver horses and you may still be able to ride her when you can. Would she also suit a trekking center of some variety? or getting a sharer or 2 for her? good luck with what ever arrangment you make for her she sounds like the perfect horse for many situations so this should keep your options open.

Aww so sorry to hear you've been ill!
She sounds just like what I have been thinking of loaning whilst my gelding is on box rest and recovers from a tendon injury but I think I am probably to far away from you.
I am sure you could find someone :) or find someone to share her, that way you don't lose her.

Hope you are on the mend!

I would say your mare sounds ideal to loan! I would have had her if she'd been available when I was looking (and you weren't at the other end of the country! ;) )

I think you should get loads of replies to an advert! Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.
She is fantastic to ride whether she has been ridden everyday or not for months. Has never reared, bucked, shied (we had a strimmer start up on the other side of a tall hedge, she took one step to the side, looked at the hedge than nothing, no temper tantrum no running away, nothing. Just continued on her way) She is a total sweetheart. No vices, nothing bad about her. Although she is stubborn and will not lunge or really school. Loves to hack, loves a nosy over the fences. She also has nice active paces when asked, but has to be asked, not a horse that will tank off with you!

Then yes I think you will have lots of people wanting to loan/share her she sounds like a fantastic oppertunity for someone to have fun with

I've loaned but someone else played a part in the loaning so tried to control the loan if that makes sense? I think if I had full control over my old loan it would have worked out a lot better!
Loans like most things have their ups and down but if both parties want it and everything is set up then it should always work. I would also suggest a contract being in place for the peace of mind and guidance for the loan.

Thank you. Do you know where to get a contract or should I have one made up by my solicitor? Fany means a lot to our family and what worries me is that so many horses seem to go missing on loan.
Would anyone know the best ways to prevent that?

Chellebean could you tell what type, not exact of course, of problems you had. PM if you would like.

Thanks,
FDC

Thanks for all your replies. I think if I do have to loan her out I will definitely get a contract and try to find the right home for her.

I did wonder about the heavy horse centre near to where I live. But I would really like a nice private home for her. Still hopefully it will not come to that.
I hope to be better soon, this illness has been going on for such a long time!

Everyone who has commented has been really helpful. :)
Thank you all so much, it seems if it does come to it there are likely to be people who would be interested in her.Fingers crossed it will not come to that.
