I have been trying for a while to get a nice dressage saddle with no luck nothing feels right. I have tried some albions, passier and today a anky professional which was lovely but real expensive. I am quite small so was wnating something to put me in a nice position. Did want to try an ideal of some assortment but she doesnt have any as I know a few people on here really like them and they seem reasonably priced. Going to try a semi flex saddle tomorrow just to see another type. Saddlers will be sick of me by the end but its such a lot of money you want to get it right. Just wish saddlers had more than one or two types. Even if they have more it depends on the size. Anyone got an anky salinero dressage saddle?

I just got an Ideal Suzannah, almost identical to the Albion SLK ultima but half the price!! It is luurrrverrly!!

Sorry, no experience of the Anky saddle...

keep trying - a decent saddler wont object. It is a lot of money and not a short term choice.

Personally, I dont like the ideals and could not get on with them. Albions seem to work for me but ended up with a made to measure dressage saddle (about the same price as a new SLK)

If you are small, you (this is theoretical as I have no idea what you look like!) could want a smaller seat. The other 3 main "measurements" to consider are 1. how long are you in the thigh 2. how long in the calve and 3. Does your horse have a broad back (broader panels on the saddle) or need narrower. So, I know I am long legged ( which is much better than it sounds) but relatively short in the thigh and long in the calve. Now I am aware of this, I can see how people with similiar leg shapes really like my saddles, whereas people who are long in the thigh find it uncomfortable. I have a K2 for jumping which follows the same principle.

I have a semi-flex jumping saddle, and previously a gp. I LOVE them! In fact I love all Barry Swain saddles but a word of warning - they are very "open" which is what I prefer but they aren't like the new dressage saddles - ie they won't hold you in position at all. IMO (and chiropractors opinion)though they are they best you can buy for your horses back.

Good luck with your saddle hunt
