I am still not great and with the crisis team. They are great in that they know the horse is my saviour and life (and their visits) works round him. Task for today was ride as it wasn’t blowing a gale or raining, not even snowing, actually saw that big yellow thing. He has been ridden once in 2.5 weeks and that was a calm walk round the road, so wondered if I was slightly silly to aim to go round the fields which are always more exciting but thought would go the “safe” way, ie walk down the big hill rather than go up it and have brake failure.
Well he was very happy to get out. Doing his happy prrffftts. Was definitely a ride where I had to concentrate but never felt unsafe. There was a flock of birds in the other field which all took off and squawked and made a right noise. This made him leap to the side, into a tractor track and almost decked himself tripping over it! He decided best to pick himself up and carry on walking. Good plan.
Got down the hill and walking along the bottom and he reeeeeaaalllllyyy wanted to whizz off up the hill. But he walked so all still good. Into next field. The field is sewn but has a set aside track along the bottom to ride along. So narrow track, fence then a big ditch. I presume something in the ditch moved so he jumped to the side, realises he was going to land on the crops so sort of leapt back to the side but then did the hump the back, drop the head and pogo on straight legs. He however only did one leap, stopped and carried on in walk as if nothing had happened.
Power walked home noticing the 2yo in the field. Didn’t bat and eyelid at the tractor, I was told the one thing I would have issues with hacking would be tractors.
I love him. He is so keen and enthusiastic. I WAS very worried hacking him out at one time but confidence came back and I have worked out how to ride him. As a result we are both loving it. Despite actually being a spooky horse I feel safe in him. He really responds.
So maybe not even a 30min hack but for those 30mins I forgot. I have had some really really bad news this week and am due an incredibly hard day tomorrow. The crisis team are amazing, they are so helpful to me. I live how they genuinely realise how much robin helps.
