...got my girlies back checked and teeth etc, got her a nice wintec close contact that she has been going MUCH better in .....................................only for local tack shop owner to come over and tell me it doesnt suit her at all

have been reccomended a saddler in colchester so am hoping he can come out asap to check and fit a new saddle IF I can borrow money from someone.

Am so gutted as she has been going so nicely and jumping out of her socks and I REALLY REALLY liked that saddle only had it a few weeks aswell
 
as soon as she saw her she said appaerntly its too narrow (has a changeable gullet so not too bothered by that), the back of the saddle sits lower than the front,

theres too much space between the saddle flaps and her side...... I didn't even get the chance to take her out of her stable onto level ground

she just said it didnt suit her shape ( 3/4 ID)

seriously gutted as am brassic aswell
 
If your horse is happy and going nicely in that saddle Don't stop riding in it. A quick look at the picture it looks ok if a little small in the seat (but I aint seen your butt)! It might look small if she is *ahem* a little portly. We have a lot of qualified saddlers round by me (8or9) but apart from me and my mum the only other guy I would use is not a master saddler but the one below that, he is by far the best. If it feels right and you and the horse are comfortable don't be railroaded into more unnecessary expense!
 
you wont go far wrong with david, he will sort you out. the only problem with him is he sings...constantly..lol. hes very thorough and will make sure you end up with the right saddle. you will find though that he is very very busy and you may have to wait a couple of weeks before he can fit you in, but IMO it will be worth the wait. not sure if he will do PX on your saddle but you can always ask when you contact him.

tried getting David to come out but he is out of action untill may, I had a lady from the other end of our yard to have a look and she just said its because lou has broad shoulders and the saddle is "perched" on her back no wrapped around her so untill I can get a wider gullet sit the saddle further back untill it sits level.

Phoned local tack shop and the owner said I SHOULD NOT ride in the saddle as it is too narrow and will pinch her shoulders and should use my straighter cut GP

, so have ordered an X wide gullet. hopefully this will allow the saddle to wrap around her more, thus allowing her shoulder a bit more freedom and maybe level out ????? (back of saddle needs to be higher to be level so if I get a wider gullet the front should be lower down???)

Am hoping this will work as I HATE my GP

Have you tried Anthony Batchelor? Hes based near Ongar but probasbly comes out your way, or Malcom someone from West Essex (They're in Clavering). I have used both, and was very pleased with them. Is Kiln saddlery still going in Colchester? Thats not a recommendation, I had a second hand brand one of their saddles and Anthony said it was the worst made saddle he had ever seen! (He is prone to exaggeration, though!). PM me if you need contact numbers.

I personally would get a second opinion. If your neddy is going well in it and you like it definitely get a second option. I love the wintecs too (had the GP and dressage on Otto), unfortunately now having the cobs they just don’t suit them.
 
Have you got a gullet gauge to measure her with?

The only thing is if you use the x wide gullet and she doesnt have extre wide withers, the saddle may press down on her withers.

I bought the wintec close contact a month or so ago for my mare and it fit her terribly, despite her bates fitting her fine, the wintec CC bridged terribly, her big shoulders didnt help but I just dont think they are a very well designed saddle for the broader horse.
 
have taken the plunge.... I got a third opinion from a master saddler and am going to get a new saddle, second hand gp as he said t the flaps on a jumping saddle are so far foreward it is pressing on her shoulder when she jumps and GPs suit her shoulder better.

It is an extra wide synthetic and am going to pick it up on tuesday free fitting with it aswell
