Red used to eat her own poo. Putting her on a quality food and keeping an eye out means this has largely stopped although she sometimes has a nibble on a Scout offering, if it’s warm ?. I understand her reasons behind this, she’s had a poxy time and I imagine poo eating was the highlight of her day for many years. Occasionally on a walk she will bring me a poo (cold, not one of my lots) and present it to me.
Why? When I say ‘leave it’ she lies down. It’s disgusting. She bought me a frozen turd on our walk this morning. ?

My dog is very hygienic and only goes for the ready bagged ones. He just rips them open if he can but some better quality bags require a vigorous shaking and the contents end up all over the place. That is when I know what it is like to hate.

Of course he can find a ready supply of these things on most walks and will go to great lengths to retrieve the better hidden ones. I stupidly made these high value when he first started his lifelong obsession with discarded faeces by insisting he hand them over, but he found little compensation in swopping them for a small treat. Bellowing leave it doesn't work for these delicacies and frankly I'm not sure a sirloin steak would tempt him.

I’m not sure whether to be pleased or not that poo bag abandonments don’t seem to happen here, so when I get a poo it’s a naked one. ?

Mine doesn't go for dog poo thank god but loves cat poo (which a lot of people seem to be under the impression cats bury, but from experience I can tell you a fair number do not ?)
Mine all eat cat poo. It’s a morning bundle to find last nights under the hedge offering. Totally, totally gross.
somehow though dog is even worse!

Oh god that's grim, non of our current lot do it but I had a dog years ago that used to eat the cats poop as it was being delivered if you get what I mean.
When we lived near fishing lakes the dogs used to eat any human turd that was left and when the 'travellers' by the 1000 had a large 'religious' gathering on the farm we lived on for 4 days there was shite everywhere for months and the dogs would occassionly get to it and feast and roll in it, christ that was bloody grim.

My kelpie rolled in a human one at Glencoe once. I shampooed her in the river, my mum was livid I polluted it but I said it was that or dump her, she wasn’t getting in the car with human shit all up her neck,

Teach her a drop command in addition to the hold and deliver one. At least that way you don't have to touch it. I'm getting frozen horse poo balls alt. They love frozen poo!

The puppies like Bear's poo, apparently very tasty. Last night, I caught Bear eating Mitch's poo, at least, I think it was Mitch's, he's hobbling just onto the lawn having now injured his other leg. X rays and a referral to the RVC today. ?

Ive come to the conclusion they do it for a variety of probiotic bacteria, which is a large % of poop, so highly attractive.
Having done the same route of giving really high quality meats/fats to dogs, probiotics too - and they STILL go for other animals poops…i gave up thinking it was a behaviour i could change, especially if they’ve been doing it a long time.
Mine rolls in fox and badger poop. The only poop given a wide berth is deer droppings!

Occasionally i spot a round ball in the shadows of my gsdXhusky bed, realise its a horse poop and demand she picks it up and puts it outside, which she does! (I cant believe she sneaks them inside!)

The corgis both do it (elder taught the other) and often fresh from the source - if this makes you feel any less alone with owning disgusting cretins for dogs? My other dog, and previous dogs - never have. The bitch did it when she was small and never got out of it.

Leave it means drop. She can’t bear to leave something so valuable ?

I don’t mind any other poo, sheep, horse, deer, rabbit… fill yer boots. But omnivore or carnivore. Absolutely not on.

Crosses corgi off list of potential breeds.

They would honestly eat anything. Worse than any lab. Everything is edible and must be eaten as are in a constant state of food deprivation: at least that’s what they think.
We say labs have a chart.. edible yes/ no.
If no eat it anyway… vomit yes/no.
If no it was ok after all. If yes eat it again and see if it’s better second time round.

I’m glad the other dogs have this revolting habit. My 9 month old lurcher is the culprit, he has high quality food and at the moment probiotics as his poo is loose. I am collecting a wormer on Thursday just in case that’s the problem, but I don’t hold out much hope. I feel he might grow out of it ?

Corgis are more - does it exist? Yes - eat it. No - eat it just in case.

Mine are all fed very high quality food and I’ve even had the vets input - purely behaviour as they are gluttonous and dirty little gremlins.

When my Lab was a puppy she'd literally spin around while taking a poo to basically eat the poo as it was coming out of her. She still eats her own poo on occasion. We tried all sorts of food stuffs and involved 2 vets, but it's just her. #pooeater4life if she has the chance, she might do it. She eats first and asks questions (well, I don't know if she even does that) later.

She's a piggy thing in general. She's not interested in horse poo so much. She has rolled in fox and badger poo before.

Fortunately our puppy shows no signs of this! No interest in her own poo or the Labs.

Ok so all of them will roll headfirst in fox poo.

Middle one adores cat poo (forbidden mousse) and it regularly makes him sick. The lipsmacking ?
Also known to ear human poop and vomit.
Dirty fecker.

Oldest ate sheep/cow poo in his youth but grew out of it and is generally fastidious.

Youngest is female and A MINGER
Cat, rabbit, sheep and cow poop all fair game. Will not eat other dog's but will obsessed with her own poop and will return to places she has pooped (I lift it immediately) to see if any is left. Like hours or days afterwards. I've been told this is a female/hormonal/breeding type thing.
She has a great diet and shines like a seal, she's just a disgusting scavenger.

So glad that mine isn't the only one obsessed with their own poo ?

Mine will also poo and save that location for later ?

Omg! I’m feeling like I’ve won the lottery after reading these posts. None of my GSDs has ever eaten or rolled in poo of the gross kind (I don’t mind if they scoff a little sheep/cow/horse/rabbit ?). My little collie minger rolls in fox poo and especially loves to roll in dead things, the more decaying and smelly the better ?. She doesn’t seem able to link the action = consequence. This was her face having a bath today after rolling in a (very long dead) cow’s liver (don’t ask!). Jesus the smell ?

I had a lab bitch who would roll in anything dead. Frogs, snakes, mice and birds. Our present lab has, luckily, never rolled in anything or eaten any poo. My sister had a rescue staff who would wolf down car poo and the vet told her it may have contributed to the dog having liver failure at quite a young age. Depends if the cat is on any medication I suppose
