didnt know wether anyone has done this but do you think people would want to have a dog for about 2 years then give it back? a sort of dog on loan period!

Do you mean, a pet dog? Or a working dog? If it's the pet, then no, I can't imagine that anyone in their right mind would take on a pet dog with the sole intention of giving it back after a couple of years. Most people take on a dog as a pet with the intention of keeping it for life.

With working dogs, yes; they do sometimes get moved on eg. guide dogs, sniffer dogs etc.

well i suppose it depends on the situation. we have friends who left their dog with friends in australia and have a deal that they will get the dog back when they return.

I think I may have misunderstood... I was referring to people who take on a dog then discard it when they are bored. I think you may be referring more to a long-term foster situation, am i right? In which case it would have to be a family member or very, very good, trusted friend that takes a dog on such a basis; otherwise, there could be a struggle to get the dog back.

A friend of mine took on her daughter's dog for a year while daughter worked in Australia. That worked well- dog was used to mum anyway, so not a great deal of upheaval.

You also need to think of the dogs when doing this, how would it affect them being placed in a new home. Assume you would want to go see them, to me that would be very very hard on them.

Would you be giving your friends money to feed this dog etc, what happens when it comes to veterinary care?

Please be careful about this as even friends could get attached to the dogs, and im not sure how long, but after so long the council/law would class the dogs as your friends
