I've just wormed my 2 with equest pramox but the cob has recently developed an itchy rear and he has found the perfect scratching point in his stable to rub off all his hair under his tail:rolleyes: My instant thought is pinworm, and after some research, seen that strongid p is a good 1 for pinworm. However I can't blast him with another round of wormer straight after his pramox.

Can I just do the unruly task of worming up his bum?!:D

Yes you can worm again after 2 weeks it wont kill him, but if it was me apart from another worming, i would make sure poo picked up, rugs washed and give his back end and tail a good wash too with a medicated shampoo, might not be pinworm could just be moulting, have you tried the cellotape test over the anus to look for eggs whch will stick to the cellotape.

Try panacur 5 day. Pinworm is a pain ,as most modern wormers are fully absorbed by the time they reach the hind gut where the pin worm lives, so doesn't kill them. Also keep cleaning your horses bottom with wet wipes, making sure you don't come into contact with it either.

I'm giving his tail and bum a good wash tonight and have been slapping on sudocrem as the skin is broken and hot but may now vaseline instead. When I lifted his tail last night to check he had a thin yellow mark which after looking up pinworm was identical:rolleyes: He's got a vet check on Thursday so will be able to enquire then about his slowly balding bum. I just wasn't sure how soon after worming you could worm again!

Bliddy nuisance to get rid of! When it was on our yard vet prescribed 5 day panacur twice, a month apart, plus something to paint the anus with on a daily basis for 28 days but I cannot remember what that was!!

It was hard work for the staff - it is a good sized livery yard and riding stable.

We also got the advice that most paste wormers are absorbed too high up the gut to deal with pin worm. The advice about hygeine is also important, you need to wash rugs, stable walls etc

If you have the vet coming next week then i would carry on as you are caring for his sore areas and discuss with vet further treatment/worming.
Hope he is less itchy soon.
