So, I am thinking of doing one of the xc clinics at total confidence live partly to have a lesson with a good trainer, and partly because I am (very vaguely) considering working up to a 100 at south of England in September, And as this is quite a big step for me, would give me an opportunity to school over the 1m fences, if I did the 1m session?
Anyone had a lesson with KD, or any of the other trainers, Lauren Shannon, Mark smith, flora Harris or Jon Pitts?
Also, anyone else going?

Sorry, I am not going to be much help but I thought I'd respond purely because when I worked it out I was totally shocked!

I have had several over a week long clinic...but it was, wait for it, 30 years ago! And she was Karen Straker then. However, I do remember her being very good at encouraging confidence over bigger fences (I owe my win at the PC internationals to Karen and her mother - who was an incredible dressage instructor).

Hi I have booked in to have a lesson with flora Harris and Jon Pitts. We are only going to do the 80 as we don't event, we go xc schooling for a bit of fun and have done a couple of hunter trials and the odd unaff round a BE80 course. I have booked in for SJ on the Saturday and xc on the Sunday, thought I would make a weekend of it! I booked it as I would like to have a lesson with Laura Renwick and I thought it would be a good show for him to stop away at for his first time as it should not be to busy at the stables. I am looking forward to it and a bit of shopping!

Mark Smith is brilliant if you've got any issues with horses being strong/not listening or if you are a bit nervous XC (although it doesn't sound like you are!) - he's the guy that team chases with his horses in a sidepull! He's also evented to top level and raced. He might come across as a bit off the wall but he is really interesting to listen to and has achieved some amazing results for riders with difficult horses.

Looks great fun; unfortunately I'm away that weekend which is a pity as it's the week before Chilham (if we survive the ballot). Quite a few friends have booked in and I bet you'll have a fab time.

I am doing 80 at chilham, then prob 90 at Borde hill or rackham (if I get in), and thinking I might try a 100 at SOE in September, if I can find my brave pants!! Hopefully see you at chilham.

Sounds great, wish I could do both, but can only afford to do one, and really want to do xc there.
Thanks for the comments :)

No you are not mad KD is a very good trainer who really listens to you and seeks to show you what you need to achieve to do what you want .
She a very easy on the horse just putting you and them in situation where it's easy for horses to take the good choice in a situation .
I don't know you of course but I can pretty well guarantee it will be a great help.
As with any clinic it's worth thinking for a few minutes before the start about exactly what you want to say at the start of the session about you and your horse and what you what to achieve from the session.

How did I not know this was on?! Wow looks fab, I'm really tempted to do this but I still haven't even been XC schooling on my boy, although am hoping to go the week after next.

How exciting! I'm hoping to go and watch so may see you as would love to be able to watch some of the XC clinics. Gutted hubby is away so I can't join in. Will hopefully be at Chilham the week after for my first 80.

Jennbags, there is 80 xc schooling there with Karen and the other trainers?
Newlands looking forward to reading your report :)

You've persuaded me to go, am just waiting to hear back from a friend if she wants to come with me, and then will book onto the 80! Not sure whether to go for Karen or Mark Smith - my horse can be an awkward sod and I'm very nervous, so he might be good for me.

JennBags I'm doing the 80 on the Sunday with Flora and Jon. My horse can have his moments and I defiantly need to find my brave pants over solid fences. When I read up all the bits on the different trainers these two sounded like they are a lot for the rider and his/her mindset so they should be good.

Thanks Pairciban - definitely worth looking into them then - I shall have to do some research :) Glad I won't be the only nervous one there :biggrin3:
